Currently looking into getting my hands on a Toyota MR2 Mk1 in a few months time, late nov maybe.
Wondering if anyone had any advice on what to look for.
Or if you own one yourself what you think of it.

Looking at early NA 125bhp versions, not the rare non-UK SC versions. :)
Not too fussed if its not running 100% as I plan to give it a full work-over too.

The big killer on these is the bodywork - it is worth paying extra fro good bodywork, the rear arches are double skinned and are a sod to fix! The engines are great and bombproof but they are not easy to work on - not a lot of space...

So mainly its bodywork i've gotta look out for?
Engine wise, are they typical jap-they-last-forever cars?

The engines do last longer than other countries, but when they do go wrong it can be expensive. make sure the cam belt had been done recently as well cos youve got to drop the engine out to get ot it and you cant take the egnine out from the top it has to be droped under neath and the car lifted. so if the cam belt has been done make sure it was done buy a proper garage.

and like what the others said chech for rust etc

and the usual stuff, ie Service histroy etc

    happy hunting

Sounds alright. I do plan do give the engine a full seeing too as soon as I have it. New bits, and a general clean up. :)
    Thanks for help.

Good choice, I will echo what monkey says.

Just make sure everything is checked over, if your not 100% happy, walk away as another will always be available to buy.

As rare as they seem to be round here, there is plenty in various states on eBay.
Will research more first, build up a nice amount of cash and starting looking in the early winter. :)

Good plan. And if I may say, you've made a grand choice good sir. Winter would be a great time to buy.

mk1 mr2s can suffer from rust quite a bit. The engines are pretty solid. Anything that has been looked after reasonably well should be good for 200,000 km. Get yourself on www.mr2oc.co.uk and try and buy from a member if possible.

    this might be useful.
and here's a link to the owners manual.

Awesome, thanks :) Couldn't be happier. The problem is trying to resist modifying it. I want to keep it standard if poss as there's hardly any stock ones left. Someone has to I suppose.

I've put some serious thought into getting a mk1 as well but insuring/taxing/running a 3rd car would make too much of a dent in the wallet.

    Sounds cool :)
I do plan on keeping this (if it happens) more or less standard. Maybe new full exhaust, Magnex or something, and better brakes.

This looks more and more likely now, I've just got a bit of a silly-cheap insurance quote. :)
