Infinity are not made by Kenwood. Infinity is part of the Harman Kardon group AFAIKR.

If you look at the Thiele and Small paramaters for the speakers Kenwood and Infinity models are quite different indeed.

I have usualy found that Pyramid really is the very budget end of audio over the past many years. I have not seen there current upper line but I hope it is better than the past.

Everyone will have a different budget for car audio. As will everyone have a different favorite brand. Sometimes you can be surprised by getting more than you bargined for, other times you can be totally ripped off.

That said, I'll have to say Pyramid is good enough to get you by until you can get the more expensive speakers/components. That is, unless they fail or go out before then.

sorry if this a bit of a necropost but i thought that it was worth me chucking my tuppence worth in.

I've modded lots of cars for other people as well as myself.

I've never dealt with a really bad aftermarket speaker but there is a large variation in quality. So far the best speakers for reliability, power handling and looks has got to be infinity reference series. Often if you buy from a good source you will find they are no more expensive than other main stream speakers, but you get your moneys worth from them.

I've even managed to convince other people to replace their existing speaker setups with infinity reference based simply on hearing my setup.

There is no doubt that there are better speakers on the market, but there is nothing wrong at all with the infities or their price.

Finally, RCA straight to speaker???? The RCA output is a PRE-amp signal, very clean but not suitable for running speakers. Thats why you buy Amplifiers! They take the signal and boost the output levels to make the speakers really move. Thats why your head unit has didly thin power cable and your amp will have cable typically thicker than your finger.
