Im looking to buy some car audio and I dont wanna get hosed, like getting walmart or other assorted crud that falls apart in 1.5y. I want to get a system that I can remove and take with me from pos to pos until I get a decent car.

Heres what I want, please tell me what Im forgetting, or if you reccommend a brand of some sort:

mp3 capable deck or Changer + deck w/slot, I want to be able to have a set of music on random that I like that will play continuously for hours, but still be able to shove a cd in when I wanna.
Eye candy is not a big issue, Im going to try to stealth it for the most part, I dont want my investment to get ripped off, by the way it wil also be bolted to the car so it will be hard to nick without destroying it, just to make it a little more fun...

I want decent power, but good quality with little distortion, I'm an audiophile and I want to be able to both enjoy beethovens 5th and Pink Floyd and metallica on this thing. When in doubt I want quality over loud as loud seemingly leads to distortion.
I also want decent contol of the equalizer so a 6 band or more is a must, digital with presets would be good too. I want good response all the way up. Pulsing bass and screaming highs with a midrange that doesnt lack...

Total budget will be about $1000 CAD, but it will be bought in parts, the deck and a few speakers first, then the amp and sub, then the eq... soo price although a limitation isnt a factor on the individual purchases.

I am mainly looking for help in choosing the right things for my wants. Parts will be purchased and the piece you quote me might not be available but a good name is always a good name.

Ok I hope you get me, im throwing this out at you to see what I get in return.

    thanks.

In general, I've not had luck with Sony. Crapped out within 2 yrs. If I can avoid it, I'll never purchase another Sony
product (I've had other problems with their stuff). I replaced it with a Pioneer, and I've been very satisfied. My GF has
a Panasonic which is nice, but I think the CDs get a little too hot for my liking. A friend bought a closeout Kenwood
that he really liked. Not too sure on any that do MP3 stuff, just general comments. I'd go to some of the major sites
and see who has what you want, then find out if any have quality issues.

sony = bad.. they call em xplods for a reason.. because they do.. :)

seriously though, my personal fav decks are Pioneer and Alpine..

as far as subs/amps.. MTX subs and Pheonix Gold amps the whole way.. :) Kenwood makes some nice amps too, along with Rockford fosgate..

    I want this deck..

I went to the place, it was definetly feeling as if I was geting hosed so I walked around and listened to the stuff they had and wrote down what I liked. Looked it up on crutchfield, and stopped at a surplus place around the corner. I now know what it is I want and will be a little from the sterio place and a little form the surplus place for $1000 CAD. Somebody lease troubleshoot this, its my first time.

    Deck: Panasonic CQ-DP171U
    Fronts: Kenwood KFC-P503 5 1/4"'s
    Rears: Kenwood KFC-6908 6x9's
    AMP: Bazooka EL1500 350W Mono
    Subs: 2x Pioneer TS-W384C 15"

The subs will be in parallel? according to Crutchfield I can do that on this amp?

Thanks for whomever looks at this and comments

If it sounds good is the important part. Not familiar with the setup tho, been a long time since I've done any research.

One thing I would recommend, is to try the CD player in a store. Put in a CD, see how long they'll let it play for.
Preferably the whole CD. Then eject the CD and see how hot it is. My GF's Panasonic heat CDs alot more than my
Pioneer. Not sure if thats a standard thing for Panasonics though.
