    Hi everyone,

Having being a reader of custom pc mag for a while I thought it was about time I joined the forum.

Forgive me if this has already been asked but i looked throught the forums and could not find an answer. I am thinking of modding a case up to take a 7" touchscreen, and after failing several bids on ebay for the thermaltake version i started at looking at something like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/In-dash-7-TFT...trkparms=65:12|66:2|39:1|72:1683|293:1|294:50

This might sound like a daft question but if I sacrifice an old molex cable and wire up the 12v and ground to it, will it be ok to run off a pc psu? The case will be for a HTPC, so the kit going inside will not be that powerful (skt929 x2 4200, 4gb ram, 1tb hdd, onboard sound and graphics, tv and wireless pci cards).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Welcome to bit-tech!

To answer your question, yes, a properly wired molex should have no problem powering the screen. The power draw would be pretty insignificant for most modern PSU's.

If that's meant to replace a stereo, it will have a power connector so it can connect to the battery, just leave it as it is, there's no point in putting extra pressure in the PSU, and for an in car PC, isn't that a little over powered?

    Oh, welcome btw :thumb:

He's not going to use it in a car. He's using it in a htpc.
