    Hi all,

Just a quick one (as always). Do any of you know if car dent pullers are any good - the suction ones?

I'm asking because I'm picking up a second car this week, and it has a foot shaped dent in the side of the back panel from some kids playing football in the area. Or just being yobbish.

Either way it's made the car nice and cheap for me (£200, which is all I need for a runabout), but thinking a year or two down the line for resale value, it may be worth me getting rid of it.

If you know these don't work, do any of you know of a good way to remove dents from a car?

i would strip out the internal panels and use a hammer and block of soft wood to knock the dent out, then use an orbital sander to smooth it out and re-spray.

it all depends on how sharp the edges of the dent are, if too sharp then a dent puller wont work.

If it's a fairly rounded dent in a flat-ish panel, take a hairdrier to heat the panel, then use one of those airduster cans, turn it upside down to get the cold fluid, and spray it on. The rapid cooling often pops them back out. :)

Probably no good if it's on the back though - usually a place where there's loads of creases etc.

Thanks for the info thus far - when I pick up the car on Friday, I'll put a picture up. It's not on the back of the car, but the place where the back passenger door would be if if had one (3dr model). The dent is fairly large, but on a flat piece of the car.

I dented my door lastnight in a nervous rush to get to my mot in time. I've seen guides on youtube about dent repair using the heat gun and then the icy air thing. Sounds good, but I can't imagine it popping out a crease. If you are going t beat it a bit you need a heat gun so the paint won't split.

When someone reversed into my car and bent the tailgate out of shape (hatchback), I used a rubber mallet to gently tease it back into the approximate shape. Then again, it was just a bit warped rather than properly creased. I think you can only really get rid of a crease with a respray and a fill tbh.

Get the Haynes manual on body work, around £15 from Halfords. Explains exactly how to sort this sort of damage out with the right tools. A great book for the novice.

Depends how deep the dent is. You might be fine (as mentioned above) with pushing it back from behind, smoothing it with some filler and spraying in the garage. Do it right and it will look more than fine, even with some aerosol primer and paints from Halfords.
