Assuming this is the black gti video I saw last week, its a damn shame.

On another note, let this be a lesson, always get your fire extinguisher tester ;p

Well When he had the engine shot there was no turbo visible and my guess is he dosnet have a turbo and thus dosent need a turbo gauge.

The term riced aplies on all cars including german, italian, american, british and anything else produced.
Riced means idiot spending money making his car look stupid with large spoiler, uneded body work and uneded interior work.

In this case the guy was probly guyilty of uneded interior work and fart canon mufler most likely.

No one needs to hear a 120hp motor weezing around the block because the owner decided to put a large mufler that sounds weird and causes allot of polution.

I have seen hondas/misubishis/nissans/small motor chevys/fords/dimlerchryslers with exesively large mufler tips and pipes that have completly stock engines and sound like my weedwacker withought a mufler on. Thats what riced is.

here is a better idea of rice

I don’t know what your smoking the turbo is under the polished tube going to behind the engine infact its right on the other side of the firewall when the fire first shows.

if your using that rice boy page as your definition of rice boys then that golf doenst fit as according to that website they use bottom of the range economy cars. the golf from the video was a golf gti which is top of the range.

Because he has a chrome tube coming out of it dosent mean he has a turbo. Either way even if he has it he was stupid enough to set his car on fire.

The website ilustrates ricy cars. Bottom of the range and top of the range dosent have anything to do with it. I have seen riced up cars that ranged from rotory powerd rx7's to v8 powered corvettes, some ricers have too mutch money.

point being is that he was stuopid enough or his builder was stupid enough to cause a fire hazard and thats excuse enough to call him a ricer. And the fact that he had a fire extinguisher that didnt work is even worse. And also the fact that he is filming his car on fire so close means he may have a fiew fried brain cells.

I was looking for more information on this car and stumbled upon this site. Just wanted to share extra information I found.

The car was a 320 horsepower VW GTI 1.8T (image gallery

The engine had a tuned block bored out from 1.8L to 2L with an upgraded TO4e turbo. Full engine management and a host of other upgrades that go along with built up engine internals.

Aparently the heatshield and firewall were not enough to stand up to the heat generated from the turbo, and wires inside the dash were the initial cause of the flames. The owner, Stu, went through two fire extinguishers, but to no avail. As shown in the video, Stu's friend was filming, while he franticly tried to put out the flames.

From the dyno read out date (18-9-2003) it seems the car had run fine for several years with no reason to believe there was a problem.

    Mod List:
    - Eurospec Sport Built 1984cc 20v Block w/ ADR Head
    - Electromotive Tec3 Standalone Engine Management
    - Innovative Turbo TO4e Dual Ball Bearing Turbo
    - Innovative Turbo External Wastegate
    - Drive By Cable Conversion
    - Piper Cams
    - RC 76 lbs/hr Injectors (800cc)
    - FMIC w/ Adrenalin piping & ATP core
    - HKS SS BOV
    - Forced Motion 3" Down Pipe Back w/ Custom Down Pipe
    - Adrenalin Motorsport Stage 2 Clutch Kit
    - Neuspeed Short Shifter
    - Quaife ATB Differential
    - Stoptech 328mm Big Brakes
    - Turn2 CNC Aluminum Crank Pulley
    - Turn2 Upper Tranny Mount Poly Inserts
    - Z-Enginering Bilit Rear Engine Mount
    - AutoTech ClubSport Adjustable Rear Swaybar
    - H&R Race Springs w/ Bilstien Sport Shocks

This was posted on another forum I frequent.

Jaguarking - quit the assumptions. And quit the attitude too, please - not one we want on the forums.

The car itself was very well modified. Done correctly and at great expense.

As posted above, it ran for many years without fault and it was literally a 'one-in-a-million' fault that caused the fire.

Just for reference, Jaguarking - would you call most of the cars on www.cleaned.be 'riced'?

I would call them some of the best-modified cars in Europe. as the name suggests, clean - smoothed and damn nice.

Check the galleries for some mkI Polo/Golf Euro-look action :p

Well I asumed and it was wrong of me to do so. But I have seen two engine fires this year alone. One was from a idiot ricer boy who took off the rev limiter on his civic and decided to redline the crap and just blew a motor and one was from a 1980's mbw M series that was on the highway and the driver got out and started runing like an idiot. Also I have seen totaly stock cars with lots of gages and dials that do absolutly nothing but sit there so they have an ilusion going. You dont understand the area I went to school, every car there was a rice pos and wana be race boys with lots of flash and no go.

Now on the personal atacks, that realy is something that you overstep your boundry on. I am plainly stating personal opinion and what I belive to be correct, just like all humans I make mistakes and frankly so do you. Also you seem to have a napoleon complex, I would get that checked if I were you. Not to mention the hostile atmosphere you bring to this place.

Also he explains that the firewall wasent up to par with the new heatoutputs of the new turbo so technicaly the car was built wrong, just because it ran fine for years it dosent mean it wasent build with a flaw.

    -jag

EDIT: took alook on the site and frankly some of those cars are nice and clean. Some are riced to a degree with oversized bumpers and ridiculus body lines. Most of them are exelent pices of work IMHO. Good link, will keep on checking them when I get home.
