    At 23, it's still expensive.

Also, fronting is the same as saying "This year I'll only drive 7k" when in actual fact Ive done 11 in 9 months.

Does anyone actually tell them the real mileage though? The 2 times I actually did fork out for car insurance I told them less than 2k a year, when in fact I was doing close to 2k a week...lol

The premiums are just outrageous tbh, more & more people just won't pay it until there is an easier way for the cops to bust you.

The difference isnt really that much if you do declare it properly.

I pay £594/yr TPFT for my 1.6L (1590cc) Civic with 10k annual allowance, if i drop it down to 2k miles my insurance only goes down by £13...

and no its 100% standard and not riced incase anyone asks :p

Yeah that is hardly any difference at all, I thought it made quite a big difference tbh. I suppose it shows again what a rip off it all is, when high milieage vs. 'grocery shopping' mileage is just £13.

Try quotedetective - I greatly reduced my insurance after using it the other month.

I'm paying £600 a year for a 1.2l Punto (22yrs) and was paying £1200 this time last year. £600 is a pair of SLi graphics cards, or a new medium spec pc!

10k is pretty average milage for someone who commutes to work.

My insurance is low becuase the cars only worth £106 more than the years insurance :hehe:

This whole situation is getting daft. I am 27, have 1 yrs no claims a common law partner and a baby. I got my insurance renewal from Admiral yesterday, bear in mind I have a clean license (7 yrs now) and have never claimed, it was £100 more! even with my newly acquired 1 yrs no claims.

To cap it all off, I then went onto moneysupermarket.com and checked out the prices and Bell insurance (a subsidary of admiral) was £200 cheaper!

A genuine way to bring down prices is to put an older driver on your policy as a named driver, I use my mum - she is over 50, been driving for 20 years, never convicted or claimed and is as low risk as she can get as she is a teacher - knocks about £50 - £100 off the price depending on the insurer...

As a note, avoid Tescos as they quoted £888 for TPFT on my 92 1.5 Civic LSi and Bell quoted £325! Go figure...

Almost the same car as me. Cept mines an ESi and a '93. I'm surprised your quotes aren't less considering your not a 'young driver' like me (im 22)

It has a lot to do with your post code as well, that may be the reason.

Nottingham IS god awful for crime, but the car is on a locked (padlocked) gated (6ft solid) driveway on the back of my house in NG5 (5 miles or so from the city centre)... My old BMW 518 was in NG7 - one of the worst postcodes there is in Nottingham and it cost about the same - I cant work it out...

That's a good deal for you then :thumb: Everyone else I know though gets ripped. I will always tell my insurers the 'best' information, i.e.: low mileage, garaged overnight, etc. etc. anything to try and get the costs down as much as possible.

If your car gets stolen from your drive then your insurance company will laugh at you when you try to claim, if you told them it would be in the garage.

Try adding a female as a named driver. Mum or gf or something. that's actually legal and it works.

All you do then is break the lock of the garage or something, but that's beside the point, I would never claim anyway because then I'd open the door for even higher premiums.

Seems to me that you're part of the reason that premiums are going up.

They would go up anyway, regardless.
I bet you anything that even when there are 100% insured drivers on the road premiums will not drop at all & continue to rise above inflation.
I don't see the need for insurance anyway, UK is infested with insurance for pretty much everything. If you crash & it's your fault, pay. Simple.

EDIT: Oh & I have never had an accident, or anything like that, so I am not the cause of high premiums - I just refuse to pay them.

Noone ever admits it's their fault though. This is a compensation nation.
