Now, this IS the true reason why insurance premiums are on the up, not just for cars but almost any insurance out there...

The insurance is their for injuries aswell and to pay for new cars and so on. If someone rams into you then their insurance will also have to cover your injuries if you are out of work.

I prefer to think of it as, everyone gets insurance, and when a knob end hits you he pays.

As for the mileage thing, I got a quote from Adrian Flux, I'm 21 years old, male, with an LL11 Postcode. 1.2 nova, upgraded brakes+shocks+clocks+stereo, unlimited mileage, 1000 business miles (class 2 i think :s), 0ncb £565 ish :D.

That's handy to know when something fails on your car and you plough into a pushchair.

    Record Profits for Insurers

Car insurer Admiral Insurance has said profits rose by almost a quarter in the first six months of the year.

Pre-tax profits jumped 24% to £68.7m ($130m) in the six months to 30 June, compared with £55.6m a year ago.

    Full story here.

Meanwhile average Joe gets ripped...typical. At least Admiral is saying they will not raise their premiums:

But the Cardiff-based firm said it had no plans to increase its premiums this year, despite last week's announcement from rival Norwich Union that it would raise its rates by an average of 16%.

Still though, almost 70 million profit it six months alone, I'd hate to know the profits other insurers are making. :grr:

Damn those insurance spies that follow you around to see if your driving your car 20% more than you should

    1.8s are fun :D

    Uninsured = unlimited liability.

Which is proper harsh, and means a criminal record, loss of licence and prob having to sell a helluva lot of stuff to pay court costs/damages.

True, but it has nothing to do with plowing into pushchairs. Insurance and car maintainence are a related statistic but in sure Lord A takes care of his ;)

i used to drive my own car on a provisional license with no-one else in it to college and back. Some lass crashed into me at a roundabout and wrote off my car and even though she was travelling far too fast on the 'bout, due to my lack of proper insurance i took the flak. Her pug 106 was a write-off too cos it was made of paper.

anyway just to clarify what i actually had to pay

IN20, LC10 - driving without third party insurance / driving with accordance of the terms of the license.
    287 quid fine.

My car was written off so we scapped it, her car was written off but someone called the Motors Insurance buerau coughed up the bill for her car so i didnt have to.

all in all i got off lightly, granted i was stuffed for insurance for the next 3 years and paid stupid premiums, with most of that going towards the MIB so they can pay for other uninsured people.

i was unfortunate that time and had insurance but it just wasnt valid on the provisional, but seriously there isnt enough of a deterrent for people to get insurance and when a big organisation that pays for any uninsured drivers WITH OUR RAISED PREMIUMS it kinda gets frustrating.

have to say im all in favour of the new police laws that have either passed or may pass about local bobbies being able to destroy repeat offenders cars time and time again :)
