Insurance on a 1050cc, 1988 VW Polo valued at £800 in Walker, Newcastle = £2,300

Insurance on a 1992 MkII VW Golf GTi 8v valued at £1500 in Berwick upon Tweed (where my parents live) = £1,600

*Bangs his head against the wall*

That is with the same driver details (me).

Insurance sucks...Specifically, insurance in Newcastle sucks.

    *n

PS: insurance on the Polo in Berwick would be like £600...

Bloody hell Penski thats madly expensive :eeek:

My area is a 'C' category according to that list, but even so, when I was looking at quotes in my own name on a Seicento sporting for fully comp it was expensive, but it still wasn't quite that much (when I was looking I was 18, no NCB, no pass plus as well). Sure I had one silly quote, ~£3k, but the average was easily £1600-1800.

To put it in comparison, where my parents live is a B but where I live is classed as 'referred' AKA 'hahaha you're ****ing joking, right?'.

    besides...

...£1600 for a Mk2 GTi as my first road car isn't bad. At all.

It's all very unrealistic, until recently Bristol was statistically the city with the highest level of car crime in the UK.

My 1998 Punto is now less than £400 p/a fully comp..

I just got my 4th year no claims and I am 23.

    I renewed last week.

My P Reg Renualt Megane Classic 1.6e saloon.

    Just me as driver.

350 TPFT (with driver legal protection).

    500 Fully Comp.

Although, adding my twin brother to learn on hikes the price though, £750 TPFT or £900 Fully Comp.

    EDIT- I am a grade B area.

Most of the time when you are a young/new driver you often will pay more insurance than the car is worth.

Damn true on that, unless mummy & daddy buy you a nice car...

:D just checked my area and its a nice B rated area :D (If I registered my address at my parents house 10 mins down the road it'd be an A)

Insurance if what screws drivers over, cars themselves aren't too bad to buy but the insurance is just stupid.

for a first time driver you wanna go with either tesco or priviledge and i doubt you will be able to afford insurance in your own name for the first year unless you have plenty of money going spare.

    good luck with it though
