Does anybody know of a cheap insurance company for 18yr old drivers?
    I own a 1.8Diesel Fiesta and I've been quoted £1989 a year for insurance?!!!!!(car only cost me £1300!!)

I'm gonna check more places in the morning but I thought I might get a headstart since there are a lot of drivers on these boards, any advice on finding a decent premium would be helpful

i feel your pain, were not even the bad drivers on the road, its all these 75-80 year olds who can barely walk let along have the reflexes & timing to handle a motor vehicle

that & when i get my car where i live i a hagh crime area & i have to park on the street, thats not helping much
i dont know about insurance companys but my driving instructer swears by this as a way to bring your insuracne down

take pass plus, the extra test after you pass to get you used to high speed driving, driving inthe dark etc etc, it knocks a 1/3rd straight off

then agian its a diesel & your penalised for it ahving a large engine (not even mentioning what it would cost for me on my mums 306 1.9 turbo diesel, then agian diesels pay you back with all the lovely savings on fuel & there damned hard to stall, ive seen my mother set off in 2rd due to the great amounts of torque the engine can supply (but my dad can still tyre spin it :D, no hpe for me bing a sensable driver with my family was there )

insure.co.uk are supposed to be pretty good

    to quote angry kid
    bugger

try going to one of these that search like 8 or 9 insracne companys or have a look in the back of a mag like max power as insurers that advertise in there usually specialise in "high risk" (yea right were some of the safest on the road) drivers, take pass plus
dont tel them about the flash hifi your installing as your only covered for £150 pounds of lost serio equiptment unless you take out extra insurance on top of what you already pay out

    be honest about everything else
go 3rd party fire & theft instead of fully comp for a year or so until you get your no claims, try paying a bigger up front cost (i think thats the word) as the insurers sometimes think he must thnk hes good if hes willing to give us more money as you can get your cost down like that

i will have to theave my brothers issues of max power tomorrow

i will take that as a compliment

i kno how to make a 1.8 diesel squeel its tyres from 1st, into 2nd & into 3rd but then in 3rd they explod as they will be doing 50-60 & spinnin on the spot (i have been to one too many cruses but i love the smell of fuel & burn rubber)

what if we wanted pics of naked ladies we would use the internet
the scary thing is my mother regularly goes oh thats a nice car, pointing @ cars slammed so low you cant see under them with body kits on so wide it takes the entire road & a sound system ready to smash your ear-drums
but she wont let us loose on her motor

fiat puntos are know to shift anyway & im guessing its an unleaded so you have a speed advantage over rK@NE's fiest as diesels are slower but they have more torue which makes them better for pulling huge wight (that my exuse when i tun my first car inot a spl vehilcle anyway)

& littel cars shift naturally im taking my driving lessons in a sear arossa (the one that looks liek a volkswagen polo) & that will get ver fast very quick

    Insurance companies love new driver$!

Best bet is to pay for basic insurance, and leave the car unlocked. Nobody will touch it! :worried:

    i feel your pain
i am learning but have been told that my driving is exelent (apart from little things i cant do paralel parking, i hate it i hate it i hate it )
the worst bit is we know were paying for the person who uses there right hand a lot who drives a badly modded nova with no insurance & is always pranging it dont we:cries:

i think your best bet would be to go to a insurance broker as young drivers usually get a better deal going through a broker, when you get your no claims bonus up a bit thats when you go direct but some insurance companys wont touch you due to your age

I'm 17 on a provisional and went to get a quote for me mums Metro (M reg, 1.1) and 3rd Party it was £1471.86 from Norwich Union. That was by far the cheaper, the most expensive was well over £3500.

Try Norwich Union, fully comp was £1700, but 1.8 is going to cost you.

    Good luck

Unfortunately they don't really look at how good a driver you are. Because you are 18 and are trying to drive a 1.8 they have to cover their bases... and almost every company will give you a horrible rate until you're at least 21. Maybe you should've gone for a smaller engine for your first car?

Good luck finding somewhere cheaper though.

you cant get small engine diesels though as they are big engines to start with.

make sure you put a thatcham approved alarm & immobaliser on your car, this will bring the insurance down as it looks liek your keeping the vehicle secure
