Seems expensive for a 02 plate. Ive seen them for less than that.

The A6 is nice, but massively underpowered.

If you want more information on Mondeos, then visit http://www.fordmondeo.org/

Everything you need to know is there.

I'd still go for a Mondeo. It will be best value for money, and is actually the better of the two cars to drive. The A6 is nicer, but like I said, a 1.8 diesel in a huge car like that will be awful.

so let me get this straight...

ford mondeo = ford focus wagon?

and it's considered a reliable car in england?

gah... ford UK must be significantly different from ford US

'cause over here, we say to those who own fords, you've all ready circled the problem...

No.. it's not a focus. The US doesn't have an equivalent model now, but it used to be the Contour. However, when we changed to the MKIII the US marjet stopped selling it.

    This is a Mondeo.

Saying Fords are unreliable is just nonsense, and probably just stuff that people who don't own Fords say. I've always owned Fords.. since I was 18, and never had a single one cause me a reliability problem.. not once in over 20 years of motoring.

I can also assume that from your comments, you don't own one either.... so you're not really in a position to comment on their reliability.

Ford still has that ugly stigma hanging over it's head, but it is now very unjustified.
Yes back in the 80's and very early 90's (sorry Pook) but the vast majority were aweful, but ever since the Mondeo was released Ford became a viable option.
The Focus only further enhanced Ford's reputation.

I'm basing my opinion on 80's and early 90's Ford's on the fact my step dad was a motor dealer and with the Ford's there was no end of problems, unlike their Japanese and German counterparts.

I'm of the opinion that no cars are unreliable if correctly serviced and maintained. Some cars just withstand abuse better, and we call these cars reliable.

Some manufacturers service schedules are just unrealistic IMO. I've seen 12000 miles between oil changes listed in some of them. After 12000 miles your oil is just thin, watery black crap! I've seen Spark plugs listed as being changed every 50,000 miles. Is it any wonder cars break down? It's just manufacturers making their vehicles seem like a more attractive, low maintanence choice.

Igore all of this, and maintain your car properly and it won't let you down.

I change my oil every 3000 miles, and it's as clean when it comes out as when it goes in. You'll have mechanics tell you that's not necessary, and oil SHOULD be black and all manner of urban myths. B&^$ocks!! WHen your oil goes black it's contamination, and it greatly increases the acidity of the oil, and greatly reduces viscosity.

Ford made some of the most rubust, reliable engines of the past 20 years. With units like the Cologne V6 and Pinto 4 cyl engines. The latter powering some transit vans four times around the clock without a rebuild needed, yet the same engine powering the Cosworths with anything upto 400bhp.

Urban myths I tell you. My Ford count to date is 8 cars since 1986 and not one of them has let me down. Fact.

You know what? The same can be said for pretty much any car if it's maintained correctly.

Ford number 9 is on order :D I'll let you know how Ford US compares to European Fords soon as well.

    Get the Mondeo!!!!

I went with an Upsolute remap, although there are other companies out there who can do a less agreesive remap for less money or vice-versa. Upsolute drive to your house and fit it on the spot and take it out for a test drive to make sure it's working properly. Took about 2-3hours in all and the difference is damn impressive! Improvements all across the rev range and it spins up in 2nd and sometimes 3rd (before you would have to try to even get the wheels to spin in 1st!).

Your economy is meant to improve, which is probably true if you can resist the temptation :p The guy who installed mine asked whether I wanted it customised to 95ron petrol or the better stuff (97-98ron). He reckons with it mapped to the higher octance fuel, it would be around 200bhp, although this hasn't been verified.

I've had it for about 6 months now and the car hasn't had any problems (installed at 78,000miles and have done ~8,000 in it since). It just makes the car completely different and it's disappointing that VW made it so boring at stock power :(
