I'd be warey of the Masarati, they have real problems with head gaskets. I only know as a mate of mine works for the import garage in the UK. Like ford have their stock jobs, like wheel bearings or something.... mas have the head gasket!
    Oh well.
I stick with older cars, the bad bits have usually been sorted by the time I get them! :thumb:

Thats BS on the milage. My buddys father owns not one but two cars that have both brocken 400k miles and they are both fords. Neither one is or ever had problems. My dads old car did 130k miles of construction work b4 my dad bought a biger car and that was a chrysler, the guy who owns it now has over 200k miles on it. neighber next to me has a 2 year old car with 90k miles and he has had 4 oil changes and a trany flush in the last 2 years and thats a gm. My godfather has a 4cylinder plymouth voyager ( chrysler minivan) with almost 300k miles and the mototr runs as smooth as silk and never realy had any problems with it. Dads good friend has a old ford taurus with 170k miles and he managed to get a cracked block and he still drives the thing daily. The jeep another friend of the family has has well over 400K miles and has never seen as mutch as problem and that car was built in 1993 and has been on the trails of upstate newyork eversince it was new. The list can go on from here.

Strange as I have never seen any toyota corrollas with rolled over million mile odometers with all the original parts intact. Peterbilt trucks ar ebuilt to run 24/7 for 20-30 years at a time. Check the for sale ads on truck selling site and see what kind of truck there are. You see trucks in there that are less than 10 years old with 750k miles sell for 25grand and the trucks look pristine. You can get trucks from the 70's with original diesels and rolled over odometers quite often. Most of these older trucks were used for cros country transportation and if you do the math its about 5k+ miles each way.

And I tell you what. I have a an uncle who drives truck as a profesion in swizerland and all over europe and he says euro trucks are eficient but are no way built like peterbilts mac's and kenworths and nameless other truck companies here. He says his truck is very well built but when it comes down to it for longevity purposes nothing is as good as the iron thats driven here. Also he is a veteran driver with over 25 years of experinece and never a crash or as mutch as a dent or a scratch. He has done more miles than most airplanes that are junked.

Ive awalys wonderd how he got so many miles out of it. I want to know what work was done on it over time, like how many tune ups, oil changes, ect. I wonder if he uses a K&N filter, as he is the only person that would have the warrenty expire :)

I remember reading an article about that guy, the Volvo has never had a single major repair, it has always been oil changes, filter changes and small stuff like that.
That's pretty impressive, but also shows that a proper maintained car will last centuries :cooldude:

Yea i have the Hard cover book of records at home and it says the same thing. I would of guessed that the piston rings would of worn out by now. Ive also wondered the smaller things like if it had power anything, manual or auto, ect. I doub't it does because its so old.

Yes, Peterbilts are undeniably rugged pieces of kit, but hardly a viable form of personal transport now, are they? We're talking cars here, not trucks.

Thing is im a large vehicle kind of guy so I tend to think of trucks as as cars. And maybe one day I will use a truck as a car. Also another point is that suv's are in truck territory in my standards. So if you go big might as well go huge? rite? Well I will see. Id like to h=own a nice pete and just take the thing out for nice rides. Maybe a pete converted to roadster form......drooooooooooolllllllll :jawdrop:

Seen that done. The turned the inline 6 from a pete into a bike on monster garage. Thats not something I would want to ride though. But driving a pete is a nice way of spending an afternoon or even a day.

FYI: The H2's are a poor follow up for the original. The H2's are built on a standard GM truck chasis (I believe Suburban or Youkon) with beefed up suspensions and large tires. Well, and with a premium price tag. They are built to appeal to the upper-middle class "soccer mom" and not for heavy-duty off-road use.

Its built off the GMT-800 Platform with the Yukon XL/Suburban. While that is true, it only shares the front half of the frame with them. The H2 has a moddified rear half to accomidate the size of the truck. This helps keep costs down and makes it more accessable to the general public. While it wont be able to keep up with the H1 off road, it has 80% of the offroad ability as the H1. The average SUV is only 30%. Such a shame that only a handfull of h2s will ever go off road.

Nothing internal has ever been changed, only simple maintenance repairs such as those mentioned previously.

For the record. The car is a Volvo 1800, I recall it being a 1.8litre engine with around 105-110hp, how much torque i don't know.
It's this car if I recall correctly. And I'm sure I do.

After reading my posts, I am now aware that I was sounding a bit stuck up, I'm not normally like that. It was just that I'd had to drive 6 hours in that Freelander, which only really p***** me off as it barely had any legroom in the back (we'd packed the Range Rover completely on the way down). I also am grateful that my family can afford the cars and am pretty down to earth (at least I hope I am)
Just a point-the people who say that a Ford or something like that will do the same as an Aston or something like that- I just want to say one thing. A geforce 2 will run games. So will a dual 6800 Ultra 512mb SLI setup. But I know which one you'd all rather have. If you can afford it, why not have it?
