My fiance has a Peugeot 206 GLX (V reg) which has been running fine until yesterday when the speedometer started to go funny. It now reads 10-15 mph over the real speed and when the car is stationary the needle is at 12mph. Any suggestions on what the problem is, the car only passed it MOT last week, but it's rather unnerving going through a speed camera!
sound to me like the return spring has had it. I had one go many years ago and at 30mph it would read around 70, at 70 I was doing nearly 120...lol
Did a quick Google and it seems like this is quite a common problem. I did find a thread that had some good tips here: http://www.kelsey-forums.co.uk/cgi-bin/cmm/YaBB.pl?num=1276534073
I doubt its anything to do with springs, the pointer will be on a stepper motor shaft. It's just plastic on metal, probably just got misaligned, so unless you want go punch through the lens its gonna be difficult to fix
found these threads.. there's more in the search http://www.206info.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/t=32614/highlight=speedometer.html http://www.206info.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/t=22818/highlight=speedometer.html
Thanks for the suggestions and links, however as of this morning the car now reads 0 mph when stationary and the correct speed when moving (according to the GPS). Will keep an eye out for any further problems.
I haven't read any of the linked threads, but as the speedo is electronic it sounds like a bad connection or a short to me - Peugeot don't use amazing quality wire, which is where most of the infamous electronics problems stem from. My central locking is intermittent too :/
Might explain why the central locking stopped working for a few hours the other day!!! We are buying a new car after Christmas so hopefully this will just hang on for a bit.
