My friend and I are planning to build his case and we've looked at the newq, but were wondering if it were possible to run a car stereo off of a molex (or if we have to, to wire it up to the wall). Is this possible? We think it would be pretty cool to have not only hte cd player capabilities, but a radio and a tape deck all in your computer. Well, let me know what you think.
That same question was asked a few weeks ago, i can't seem to find the post. However, i think someone said that it wouldn't be possible to do.
Thanks, if you find the post, please let me know. I don't remember reading that one. Do you know which forum it was in?
here is one about putting mp3 setup in a car... not sure if it is the one your talking about because it doesn't address the newQ specifically but has some good links... http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4264&highlight=car+stereo
I have seen a case that was modded to have an equalizer and output to stereo speakers. You can see it at virtual hideouts case gallery...case number 453. It's a little ruff lookin...but you can see the basic idea. It seems like it should somehow be possible to install a stereo. May have to do serious work to get it powered (create a fuse block inside your case and get 12v power to it...same basic idea as a car yeah?). Just my thoughts.
that would take some serious cutting and reinforcing.. i considered it awhile back but the deck was just way too wide for the case..
AS I said, we are planning on making the case, so as far as space, that shouldn't be a problem--though we would like to keep it to at least the size fo a server case.
acually it is possible. i have done it u have to get a converter to convert wall power to the power the deck needs, not sure if its ac>dc or dc>ac, then rig ur amp and to ur speakers works lieka charm
A 300W psu can supply around 10A on the 12v line, so adding a car radio drawing anything up to & over 5A is a bit much. Nothing to stop you rigging up a second psu for the radio side, or disabling the radio amp so it only plays through an external system. On size, my radio slot is 178x50, (but set is 188x58) a 5.25" drive is 143x40mm.
being a car stereo installer all you need to do is make sure the stereo gets a 12v supply.. maplins sell a 240-12v adapter for 110 quid.. that works.. although i do know of others but cant think off the top of my head..
Molex connectors supply 12v anyway don't they? Isn't it simply a matter of bodging up the connectors? I agree with a previous reply though, what's the point when your PC can: Play cds Play mp3s Have a radio tuner installed Tapes are always getting worn out, you should copy your collection to mp3 and burn to cd. Cassettes fit nicely in a wheely bin.
We're only in the planning stage right now, we probably won't start building until he gets back from Japan next in about 8 months.
