    From The Inquirer:

ANXIOUS ROAD WARRIORS constantly checking the battery on their notebook to see how much time they've left to panic are looking forward to fuel cells, big time.

During this year, a number of firms has showed off prototypes of fuel cells for notebooks and now NEC claims it has a viable commercial design too

Cool - I thought this tech was a lot further away....

I assume that since these things are being designed for laptop use they are pretty big and will probably take a while to get down to mp3 player size... also don't they need a supply of hydrogen to recharge?

They are using methanol or some other form of alcohol in these "small" fuel cells. I had also heard that the prototypes where still very bulky - hence my comment on the development timescale.

One of my mates designed a hydrogen fuel cell for his HND coursework... In goes water out comes electricity, was certainly a crazy project!

There was a press release about it a few months back, I noticed it in electronics weekly IIRC.
