I'm looking to build my new system soon, looking to get a dual card setup and im just wondering,

spending around £400 on the cards give or take so im wondering 6870 crossfire or 470 crossfire?

not really fussed about eyefinity as I've only got one 1680 * 1050 monitor, 3d could be intreasting but not many games use it.

so for preformance wise at my resolution what should i go for?

A single fast GPU will be alot better.

GTX580 seems right on the money.

Crossfire / SLI is designed for higher resolutions than that, you'd be wasting a lot of potential burning crossfire @ that resolution

i personally wouldn't go for a multicard setup unless i had multiscreen goodness / very high resolution to play with

A single 470/ 6870 would be enough for anything you could throw at it at that res. Two cards would be an expensive overkill.

These replies are the truth. You really only want to start thinking about multi GPU set ups when you're going at least 1920x1080 and beyond.

Down the road, buying a cheap second card will help to extend your system's life.

Actually there's around 300 games that can do 3D so far.

I say go the full hog on a GTX 580..they are pretty beastly cards.

There are New cards from AMD next month and there is a upcoming GTX570/560 too.
Might be worth holding off if you are in no rush.

At your resolution, something like the GTX460 1GB or the 6870 should be more than enough. Why spend more?

New cards will always be "coming out soon". :)

I was going to do a 'pros vs cons' of this, but after looking at the BT review of the 580 again, I'm starting to think this is a good idea. A 580 will allow you to play any game with all the bells and whistles activated, as well as 4xAA.

The only two downsides are the cost and the fact you need a decent PSU to power it.

Buy a 6870 and a new 1920x1xxx monitor? I think that the increased real estate would probably make more difference to your gaming experience.

+1 for don't go dual GPU. You can if you want but it won't make any positive difference
