    OT i guess there's no mention of them being forcing to follow better security practices, no audits or anything?

    nope - they will probably be breached again. £400,000 is chump change for a company like carphone warehouse. Chances are they have saved more money by under investing over the last several years in security. Hopefully GDPR will give firms like this a kick up the arse and much bigger consequences.

    In reality though firms lose far more money by public image damage which is one of the major concerns now. They dont care they lost your data just that you dont know about it. GDPR will legally FORCE them to disclose breaches and that simply doesn't exist today in UK law.

    For a year or so... no doubt it'll be amongst the 'Needless EU Red Tape' that gets ripped up post Brexit...

    Still not painful enough. Standard procedure should be making them compensate every single affected customer, so we'd be talking 10-100s of millions
