    Hello.
I'm done asking questions for a while and am doing my first mod project on the internet here. I live in Colorado, USA but this is probably familiar to many in the UK. It is a Casdon 379.

It is a child's toy washing machine. That's the front view of the stock toy.

    The side view.

    From the back.

Close up of the front door.

The "front panel" pushbuttons and LEDs
    [IMG]

Now is this cool or what? A pull out drawer for the washing powder. This has GOT to stay functional.

What I am doing is putting my $199 Everex gPC into this case. I had my old HTPC in this case, so it's more of a redo than an original build. The new parts are replacing the old but there is a lot to change. All of the gPC will go in here. C7 motherboard 185mm x 230 mm, Seagate Barracuda 80Gb 7200.10 HDD, Optical drive, and the USB, speaker, mic jacks.
I use an old skul markup language: Masking Tape Markup Language or MTML: like these examples.
I "mark it up" and show my family for their input.
The goal is to keep the Casdon look on the front, top, and sides with everything just in the rear.
Enough for first post I think. Wait, one more: a peek inside while I was building this the first time.

I would have never thought of putting a computer in a washing machine lol. I think this will be cool. Got a paint scheme?

Yep. Factory stock! I want to keep the complete stock look with the exception of an 80mm fan inside the door opening. More pictures today.

When the toy was new it makes washer sounds and the door opens and the tumbler inside goes around. The door actually has a switch like a real washer that stops the drum when the door is opened. I will use that switch to turn on the 80mm fan when the door opens. I'll post the pics of all this.

What I think is cool is that these toys by Casdon were not imported into the US. They are UK only as far as I can find out from the company. They have microwaves, washers, refrigerators, all with realistic looks and most have sounds.

Couple more original shots and we'll get to the electronics. Promise!!
It seems some people want to see the door open. here it is:
The slot on the left is for the little arm that goes to a switch that turns off the tumbler when the door opens.
How big is the door? Glad you asked.

After I removed the tumbler for interior room It is still big enough for an 80mm fan behind some modder's mesh.
The original front from the inside with tumbler.
The Back half of the case with everything removed from the interior.
The little opening is the original battery cover for the sounds.

    A p3 thin client board
    [IMG]
It is a PCI slotless board with only the I/O needed.

I once thought about the I/O coming out the side but decided to stand the board up and put the I/O out the back and hidden.
    Vent hole on top? Never!

We will cut no holes before their time.

Back in a bit gotta change computers.

Misc shots and the working case back

This first picture is of the little switch I saved from the front door.

The view from the back with the P3 motherboard standing up and the P3 power supply installed.

The new C7 motherboard comes with a 200 watt power supply which is over kill for the board but it's sized for if you want to use all the IDE and both SATA connections. I could get by with smaller and am looking for a shuttle sized one. This next shot shows the motherboard, the old 80 Gb PATA drive on the bottom, with the slimline DVD drive on top.

I use the slimline drives a lot because I got a box full of them in trade for some protein skimmers I used to make.
This is the DVD from the front.
It just clears the hard drive underneath. Packaging gets tough in small form factor cases.

Tonight I'll post the comparison of the old parts and the new. should be interesting. Smaller motherboard by has 2 PCI slots, thinner hard drive, same size power supply but it has SATA connections.

    More to come

You absolutely MUST put a reservoir in that hole and watercool the system. :D

I've actually been working with Danger Den but it's a weird processor and we are examining a Northbridge or Video chip solution. Now hush before you give away the last act of the movie! ;)

    The Donor
For $200 dollars American money you get this:
    The front
    [IMG]
    The inside:
From the other side, both case sides are removable.
No motherboard tray. 6 brass standoffs in case bars. Cable management costs extra.

Closeup of the motherboard, and the installed modem. Modem? My last modem was before some of you were BORN!
Google Texas Instruments Silent 700 for a really good time.
This is why I want to keep it the original silver and black.
37 inches of High Def with enough inputs to satisfy anyone, HDMI, DVI, component, composite, VGA, S-video.
Remember this is my media server and one needs a monitor!

Let's take it apart and trial the parts shall we.

lol you can double click anywhere on the bar that contains your thread title in the project log section. Or, you can just edit the first post and go to advanced edit mode.
