Hi everyone. I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

I just finished building my first computer. To my surprise, everything went really well on the first go-around. Go figure, what I thought would be the simplest part of the build-up ends up being the most troublesome.

Firstly, the hardware I'm having trouble with...

    EPOX 8KHA+ Motherboard
ANTEC Performance PLUS Model PLUS660 Case

The problem I'm having is none of the case LEDs are working. There are 3 bundles of wires coming from the case bezel. Here's the text printed on each plug. "Connectors" describes how many openings in the plug itself. I didn't know what else to call them. :)

    -----

grey bundle, all single connectors: vp, tpa+, tpa-, tpb-, vg, tpb+

    colored bundle, all single connectors: 2ground, 2+D, 2-d, 2+5v, 1ground, 1ground, 1+d, 1+5v, 1-d

power sw(2 connectors), power LED(2 connectors), speaker(4 connectors), HDD LED(2 connectors), HDD LED(2 connectors), reset sw(2 connectors), reset LED(2 connectors)

    -----

I've also included some images from the EPOX manual.

    Excerpt from the Manual
    Closeup of the pins

The only things working for me are the POWER SW and SPEAKER plugs. I plugged them in where the mobo manual states and those two have been working since POST.

I've also tried plugging the case LEDs into different areas. The only spot that would light an LED were the 2 right-most pins of the SPEAKER connection(there are 4 pins for this plug), so I know the LEDs are working at least.

I don't quite understand what the first 2 bundles of wires are for, are these supposed to be plugged in somewhere?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm guessing that the first two bundles are for front mounted USB and Firewire....

The coloured bundle will be USB. The grey one may be Firewire, but I don't know, as I have no exprience with it.

You should have some headers on your motherboard for USB - check your manual for details

As for the LED's, plug them in where they should be according to the manual. if they don't light, unplug it, rotate the connector 180deg and reconnect (flipping the leads).

I appreciate the fast response. Cool, you're right about the first bundles being USB/Firewire, re-checked the manual.

As far as the LEDs, I have been trying various configurations like you mentioned, but only one area lights them up and that's the right 2 pins of the Speaker plug connection. Is it possible I have bad pins? How can I test this out?

Also, is it safe to switch out the LED plugs with the system on? Or should I shut down everytime I move a plug around?

You could test the pins with a multimeter.

Shouldn't be problem moving them around with the PC on... I've done so in the past, trying to hook them up.

Thanks for the advice everybody. With this being my first self-built computer, I was really hesitant with going against what the motherboard manual said.

Needless to say, after about a half hour of twisting and fiddling around with different combinations I finally got the POWER LED and HDD LED to work.

Here's a little image of my computer. Sorry for the quality and size, it was taken with my Pen-cam. :)

I painted my Pioneer Slot CD Charcoal Grey using Plasi-Kote Vinyl Color and the floppy drive is OEM Charcoal Grey which I purchased from Directron. System specs are; Epox 8KHA+, AMD 1800 Athlon XP, Seagate Barracuda IV 40gb 7200rpm HDD, Crucial 256MB PC2100 DDR RAM, GeForce 2 MX400 w/64MB and its running Windows XP Pro.
