Hi all I'm looking for some help and guidance/advice to find a new case and psu for my new computer. The new build I'm planning on making is the following: CPU: Phenom II X4 955 6 MB (AMD Processor in a Box (PIB)) (Cooler (fansink)) GFX: XFX Radeon HD 4890 XXX (1 GB) MB: Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P Ram: Corsair XMS3 2 x 2 GB x2 (8 GB in total) CPU-Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME Rev.2 Before now i never really thought about the heat and cooling in a case, but since my current build (that's 4 years old) is getting really hot in a closed case, especially during the summer time, I have started to think a little bit more of what I want from a case, but also what I maybe want to do in the future. 1. To start with, a case that has a good airflow to keep the temp down in the case 2. Also I prefere a stylish case, not a case where there are lot's of colors. 3. I have considred trying watercooling and OC in the future, so room for an eventual watercooling system (never done that sort before). 4. Have considered trying 2 GFX's at some time in the future as well. The computer is going to be used as an allround machine, games, movies, office-work and some inventor drawings (3D drawings). I hope you guys can help me out, and i'm sorry for the wall of text, just trying to get it all covered at once. Regards Jet
some decent components there, and glad to see you going for an AM3 as opposed to an lga 775 rig like so many people still seem to do if they cant afford an i7. just fyi might wanna hold off for the 2 weeks or so until i5 rolls out, even if you still go am3, it might be cheaper ... given the rig you are looking at, plus the oc and xfire possibilities in the future, i would recommend a fairly high end case. the cooler master atcs 840 is highly rated by bit-tech, the storm scout is sexy imo...lotta ways to go really, some very nice lian-li's if you stay over $150. and though it is a little long in the tooth, i still like the 830 evo. as far as the psu, though it is overkill for your current rig, i love the corsair 850hx. modular, silver rated, and 6 x 6+2 pci-e connectors, 70 amps on a single rail...i want to make babies with it...
Trig, I was just about to suggest the ATCS840... However I wanted to know if he was willing to shell out or not.
Actully, I have been looking af the particular case ATCS840, it is nice, but still wasn't sure if it was the right call. Well the budget for it, is around $300 / £180 just for the case. (Have in mind I live in denmark, so I belive british pound is a more accuate price) Regarding the PSU, as you mentioned and i forgot the mention in my own post, is that it has to be modular, becuase i hate to have cables that aren't beeing used and just take up the space and such. If I buy an 850W psu, will it be able to run, lets say 2x GFX and watercooling system some time in the future if I decide to do so?
Costs too much? Its RRP is exactly $300 but i heard places list it for like $270. I'm sure it will cost more in the UK but i was hoping that mainland Europe wouldn't get much higher prices.
Well, here in denmark it costs 2100 Dkr, wich is around 250£ and in USD it's 405$, so you see the price is very high for me. I have no interrest in buying abroad, unless it's inside EU, then I will have to do some calculation as for what the price will be. If I buy it from the US, i have to pay more than 300$. You see, our tax system is made in such a way, that if we buy anything abroad, and depending on where and what we buy, we might end up paying more for it than it's worth/ willing to give. Thanks Elton and Docodine, I will look into the Silverstone case.
I have heard a lot of this case, but I don't belive it can be used with watercooling, when/if the time comes for that. Seems too small for it. Another thing about this case, is that i really don't like how it looks like in quality. Regarding the Silverstone FT01, that looks like a very nice case indeed. Not that much room for watercooling, if any, but still, I will add it to the list of possible cases. Right now my list looks like this: ATCS 840 Silverstone FT01 CM Stacker 830 Evolution
