Thanks for the reply's guys. Seems that black and white is most popular on here, although Bemanistyle mostly prefer the black and red one. Also, only a small project, but 'Redlight' seems like a logical name for it, especially if I go for the second one. Is the name already taken?
Bare in mind that once you start your "mini" project it will probably escalates into a full blown overhaul! If you go for water cooling are you mounting the radiator under the top panel?
Haven't decided yet. Dan got that 8600GT working for me yesterday, and he said he'd let me borrow his Celeron Dual Core when I get my new motherboard until I get the Quad Core I want.
Sweet, let me know when you've got Crysis Now all you need to do is get him to send that motherboard back lol
He said himself that fatil1ty boards are bad, cause his brok on hime, got himself a Foxconn one instead.
Let me know when you have: sandpaper/brillo pad or something to key the chassis primer paint (compatible with the primer) clear coat Maybe we could do it when we both have a few free periods at school
Sorry to bump guys, but I've ordered the LEDs today, was going to try and get some from school, but they're only likely to have red or green 5mm diodes. So ten 3mm white LEDs are on their way, so I'll finally be able to rid myself of the last bit of 'gamer-style stock' blue on my case. I bought ten lights because then I have a margin of error, in case I screw up the first time, and it doesn't hurt to have spares laying around. Pictures when I get round to fixing them in. EDIT: So yeah I'm going for red and black with white light, turns out to be easier in the long run.
UPDATE!!!!! After some problems (see other thread) I finally got them working tonight. I changed the molex pins from 12v to 5v and added two 300ohm resistors in parallel on each LED. Works like a charm now. Pictures! EDIT:: If a mod thinks this needs to be moved to the project log forum, then by all means.
LEDS HAVE ARRIVED! A little later in the day than I had hoped though. So out with the old fire hazards (err I mean CCFLs) And in with the new 6 LED cluster Here's a close up for you The only thing that ruins it is the green lights in the PSU (will be gone soon enough) See the green is really visible there, I don't know what to do when my Zalman with green LEDs arrives Another close up Taken through a 3.5 inch bay I had taken out earlier So far with the door open I really like this last image, the white light reminds me of moonlight. Anyway, guys I know this isn't really your typical 'hardcore mod', I'm not hacking this case to pieces, just I want to start off small. Soon the inside of the chassis will be sprayed black and I'll start painting the silver bezel red as soon as I can. New hardware coming soon as well. Replys encouraged.
just saw this thread now, and i was very amazed by your 3D skills! - what program did you use to make those case doors? and btw, i think the red and black one looks best
I used Photoshop for the image, although with time I could do it in Sketchup, glad you like it. I'm really pleased with the way this has come out so far. The LEDs I bought from Phenoptix are really bright. I couldn't be happier with the front panel.
The other one would look good, but I think the black and red one looks classier. Also if I had put red LEDs in the front panel, the case wouldn't contrast much in the dark. I like having the two colours. I'll be needing LEDs again for my next project so I know where to go
I was actually considering this, but it probably wouldn't be worth it. I'm planning on modding these speakers though: I want to put one or two red LEDs behind the crossbar on the sub so that the speaker itself is illuminated, and the side speakers have a slightly translucent casing, so red LEDs in there as well. Maybe I can just wire them in with a resistor.
