Hello, Recently I have made a slight modification of my CoolerMaster CM690 II case. It came with 2xUSB 2.0 ports, wanted to upgrade it to USB 3.0. This required replacing USB 2.0 ports with 3.0 and establishing new connection cable with plug to MB. The problem is that after connecting to MB (USB 3.0 socket) it there is only USB 2.0 connection and 3.0 not working, HDD drive discovered as USB 2.0 (checked with USB 3.0 portable HDD - different LED color for 2.0 and 3.0). I think that I may have made mistake in connections but cannot find where. Can somebody check this? Best regards, Jarek MB - Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H portable HDD - Samsung S2 Portable 3, 640GB Connections
You have Pin 10, ID (over current protection), tied to ground but according to you motherboard manual this should be NC (no connection). I'm not 100% sure, but I think that by grounding pin 10 you are telling the motherboard that a downstream device has detected an over current condition, and the motherboard is responding buy cutting power to the USB 3 pins, hence only having USB 2 connection. Just a guess. Also have you done a continuity test of each connection? Thus confirming that you have no broken connections from a bad crimp, solder joint, and or broken wire.
Hi, Thank you for checking that. Unfortunately this is not the case - right now I have it connected without PIN 10 connected but still not working properly. I have to double-check connection then. BR Jarek
