Hi guys, im not exactly new to modding, though i've only done smallish kind of mods before.

Only tool i really used and own in my household is a dremel. Im looking to create a new project log (new case from scratch) but before i start i would like some tips on the best way to get things going correctly.

Firstly im not very keen on using a dremel to cut bits of metal/plastic, as during my past attempts i experienced bits of cutting discs flying towards my face at 50mph. Kind of worrying to me. So i've been looking to purchase a scroll saw or similar. Would this be the best tool for cuttin sheets of alu/plastics? As for sanding/filing i will use hand for that or dremel depending on the roughness of the material.

Secondly, where is the best place to purchase sheets of alu/plastics here in the UK? in the past i've purchase from places like Wickes for a sheet of clear acrylic which did cost quite a bit. I would preferbly want coloured acrylic in a size that covers my needs, maybe around 500mm x 500mm.

    Lastly, SPONSORS!!
im not exactly super rich, but then again not super poor :D and would want a few sponsors in the UK which can supply me with stuff like fans? wc items? mainly modding supplies and maybe a bit of hardware. Sounds quite a lot but if anybody has experience with sponsors in the UK i'd be greatful to know how they were, and what they recieved.

Like i mentioned i've never made my own case, which is what im looking to do. It will be SFF/Mini ITX based, keeping things silent and cool at the same time, also some nice eye candy.

    :dremel:

    Thankyou

    My tips
use reinforced disks and learn how to use the dremmel properly.
2 visit local shops/tips for old pc cases
Find out if theres a local computer charity near you and see if they will supply parts.
As to acrylic thats a good question and I suggest visiting a local sign maker.

And finial tip: learn to use the forums SEARCH FUNCTION !!!

i have searched but then, my questions i wouldnt want to revive old threads. Also searching "UK" doesn't give me much hope due to it being below the 3 letter function.

    Thankyou anyhow for the tips.

Still would like some more info though on if anybody has places/links to dealers which they have used.

If you're intimidated by Dremels and shattering cutting discs, purchase a face mask - they come pretty cheap ($12 USD) and are great to use in conjunction with safety glasses/goggles.

If you're never built a case before and have nothing to showcase your skills, then you most likely will not receive any sponsors. Sponsors typically donate components to modders who have been proven themselves to be skilled. A great mod = lots of publicity and potential sales for the sponsors. While there is a chance that you can get a few sponsors, your best bet is to assume that you will not receive anything. Low expectations yield little disappointment.

You really need to do a better search - there are MANY threads regarding tools, their uses, and which ones to use for plastics and metals.

Also, I think that a scoring knife and jigsaw may be more applicable towards modding in general than a scroll saw.

I second that. At least I was able to pick up some sponsors to help out with the watercooling, fans, wiresleeving, and other misc case gear; but that was after I already had the design and some work in progress to show.
