blek, I've been meaning to write up my analysis but I'm so busy at the moment , I've had the drivers for about a week... sooo much writing to do they fix the splinter cell IQ issues that I discussed in my X800 review.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the temporal antialising works. "The feature provides higher Anti-Aliasing quality when an application frame rate is 60 frames per second or higher." Ya think that means that if your playing a game and your fps is just over 60 but then drops under 60 from time to time the quality will keep getting better then worse then better etc? Would it even be a big enough change to notice? Thinking about these kinds of issues is what happens when you become a senior programmer and have to design software.
Well....I've got to tell ya...this is the darnedest thing I've ever seen in my life. I've never had any problems with catalyst drivers before. But these drivers just will not work on my Win2k machine. I have tried multiple times. Everytime the machine tries to reboot after installing everything it freezes trying to start windows. I have to boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the drivers to get the machine to boot back up. I've never had any problems before. This completely sucks!
i love the way you told me this just as i'm in the middle of installing them. EDIT: ok i've just installed them and its made ATItool's cube render go all choppy and weird.with 4.6 i got 130+fps on the default window size now i can hardly get 70
I installed it and i can't find the ATI thing were you can adjust the settings. I found it. never mind.
thought you had an Nvidia card. desktop>properties>settings>advanced>tadar all the buttons to mess about with
Deviate, I never tried installing the version of Catalyst 4.7 I have on a win2k machine, does it mention anything about this on the driver page?
heh...don't I feel sheepish. Don't ya hate it when you do something stupid like..oh..remove all of the monitors from the device manager. And then you can't get the computer to boot up correctly. So you have to go into safe mode. And then you post something about it and really show how dumb you were? The drivers install fine. Once I reinstalled a monitor that is. I'm testing them now.
R300 upwards iirc no idea if its noticable, but 2x AA looks like 4x AA so im assuming itll be faster anyway and the drop will probably be slightly noticable.
I ran my usual benchmarks on these just to see how they looked for my own knowledge. Keep in mind that I'm not really concerned with benchmark scores. I want real world performance. But this provides a way for me to measure a little about the drivers. Aquamark3 - my score went up about 250 points. The release notes for the Cat 4.7's said that there was some increased performance in AM3. 3dMark01 - my score went up a little over a hundred points. 3dMark03 - my score went up about 65 points. Small gains...no biggie. But in game everything looks and feels really nice. I haven't actually benched anything to see what kind of FPS I'm getting, but everything I play looks really good and smooth so I have no complaints.
I should have something up over the weekend regarding this... I've already benched through my test suite, it's just a case of finishing the writeup!
I did, i took it out, the screws holding it together popped off for no reason and the heat sink slit my thumb.
