sorry if somone already started a thread for this that i missed... Has anyone tried it yet? I couldnt get 10.8 to install on my machine, and so im running on 10.5...which gives me that annoying screen flicker whenever anything flash opens or closes. oh ATI...will you ever get it right?
They are getting it right, I switched from Nvidia after being a fan for years. Doesn't mean I wont go back to Nvidia, just as of now ATI is winning in some areas that appeal to me. And no, I haven't tried the new update yet.
I've had a great issue with catalyst since 10.6. I have crossfire 5870vx in my build, when I install every new version of catalyst including 10.9 it turns off gpu 1 to which my monitor is connected. So halfway throughout the install my screen goes black and that's it. At first I tried resetting my rig but that caused the drivers to become corrupt, then I decided when it happened to try switching my monitor to the other gpu. Sure enough my screen turns back on. I then get to click finish on the install and restart my rig at which point I can switch the monitor back to gpu 1 and enable crossfire.
I don't understand how you all seem to get these problems? If you uninstall all display drivers, then reboot, Cancel Microsoft updates from installing drivers for your card. Then use driver sweeper to clear any left over files. Reboot. You can now install a fresh copy of CCC drivers without any of the conflicting of old drivers. Simon.
+1 for removing old drivers and then booting to safe mode and using driver sweeper. You shouldn't have issues that way. +1 (again) for cancleing Microsoft auto updating. Only ever let it look for the updates. Never let it install them until you have looked at them first. I'd say if 10.5 is giving you problems then clean it out properly and then install 10.6. Not had any issues with that myself, and I see no reason to change to the newer ones just yet.
I just update with the new drivers as and when they come out. I have never deleted the old drivers and I have never had a problem. I'll check when I get home but I am sure I am on 10.9
I ran the install via Steam and it was completely hassle-free. I simply clicked a link, it loaded up, downloaded the 10.9 drivers, installed them and then informed me they wouldn't kick in until I rebooted. After I finished what I was doing, I rebooted and the machine came up perfectly. I checked everything out and there was no remains of the 10.8 drivers I was running and no problems. This is big for me, as historically I have had to uninstall the old Catalyst drivers, then run Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode, then install the new ones, which took a while for me. This is completely brilliant for me and I give top marks to both Valve and AMD for their work getting this right.
i downloaded the 10.9 drivers before they announced the steam version, (twitter-catalystmaker) posted about drivers, then about valve/amd i had no issues with the direct download though.
I've experienced only one problem with 10.9 and that was when i extended my desktop to my TV. The driver crashed, recovered and then decided that both my screens should have a very bright green tinge and be moved up about 5cm. I had to restart, which was annoying since i was running folding@home.
I originally updated via Steam but it errored out. Had to clean the drivers out before installing them the old fashioned way! No problems since!
i uninstalled 10.2 when i removed my X1650. then i installed my 5870 and tried to install 10.8, but i kept receiving runtime errors, so i tried 10.5 which installed without a hitch...but it gives me the flash-related screen flickers which quite a few people have experienced. its not a huge deal but id like to make it go away someday. to be honest, this is actually the first time ive ever had any problems with ATIs drivers (out of the 4 ATI video cards ive owned). i usually just install whatever drivers come on the disk and dont give it a second thought
i had problems with the 10.8 drivers, but having updated to 10.9, seems to be all ok. couldnt get steam to update them though, had to go through ati website.
