I've done it and it works great! get a 1k pot of the like, put the pot where the switch was and it will work great! http://pages.infinit.net/td/mods3.htm http://pages.infinit.net/td/mods5.htm here's the final results of my first dimmers
thanks ya i thought it would be ok. i have seen the throbber in action so i thought i could doi t with a rheo just wanted clarification. thanks
oh yeah, just a little hint so you don't freak out.. IF you ever see you ccfl flashing when your dimmer is on, or if the cc just light at full power, etc..., your dimmer is your problem, make a new one. happened to me so
all icould find at radio shack was a 25 ohm rheo rated for 3-5 watts. what do ya think will it do the trick?
i was afraid of that. i'll have to special order one i guess. we are talkin about a mechanical rheostat like the ones used to control the fans yes?
it's a potentiometer that you need... the difference is that rheostat are 25k+ or something like that... I used a 1k pot 1/4 watt. the hard thing is to get one with a shaft... but that's what you need. check in your local electronics shops, they'll have them.
my trouble is that i'm using a cathode under my case and it's to bright. i tried glow wire but that was to dim, so i can't make the wire brighter so i'll make the cathode dimmer. once i set it i won't change it so it'll be ok. so all i need is a pot between the cathode and the switch? does it go infront of the little transformer thingy or behind it?
jq3k: it will work since ccfls are 12v too Mettallian: here's how you do... you take the switch out and put the pot here's the dimmer. they usually have 3 legs... mine have 5 since it have a switch in it. OFF->ON and dimming and here's the cc. both end where the switch was are used for the dimmer. Pots doesn't have polarity. hope that helps
