    i have a fancontroller with two 12 - 0 - 5 V switches
and im thinking of controlling a ccfl with one of those,
what will happen if some spupid kid comes and flips it to 5V, will the inverter brake?

    have done this myself.
The ting that happens (my experience anyway) is that the light itself only lights up partially, and if you regulate the voltage to the inverter, you can infact adjust the length of the light.
