OWCH!!!! basicly i was installing some new green CCFl's whilst my PC was on.....i dont know what voltage it transforms it too in the black box but i have an enrty hole on my finger from the box to an exit hole on my thumb to the wire! black in clour like when you burn ham in the oven......anyone got any info on what volt/current etc?
It's about 5000 volts at a very low current, frequency is near RF though so due to the skin effect it tends to burn/melt flesh. You'll have encountered something similar if you've ever played with a HAM radio transmitter, especially if it's grounded badly
i know, i was looking round for aaages to see what the noise was, then i looked down! dammit, the burnt bits fell out, no sympathy now
CCFL inverters usually output around 1.8kv. I read in a lcd backlight pdf that they output around that.. Also breakdown of air is about 1.1mm/kv - if you bridge the output with your finger, you get about 2-3mm of arc. 1.8kv is the RMS so at peak its probably up near 3kv... How did you burn yourself? Ive bridged the output of my ccfls several times with my fingers, doesnt hurt, slight burning smell and a very small hole in the end of the finger... but no burns..
Is the cathode OK? (Hehe, just messing... kinda how a serious biker falls and another biker sees the blood and asks if the bike is ok, and the biker who fell gets back up again and rides it off)
well.......there is/was a wire sticking out of the little molexy thing thats attacted to the ccfl and i came into contact with that and the case at the same time is 1.8KV 1800volts? and as for the burns....are you thinking napalm burns?? dude, put sme ham in the oven and thats what a spot on my thumb and fingers looked like.
Ouch, what type of ccfl kit was it? The sunbeam inverters seem to go up in smoke very easy, even though I love the kits it happens quite a bit, thats why I'm going to put it in a metal or thicker plastic case and 40mm fan so if it goes it won't damage anything.
i dont know what type they were, i bought them from (ok ok im sorry) ebuyer. 12", green, black plastic inverter of that helps....... btw, do you think its wise to put soemthnig that dangerous in a metal box? atleasts the plastic wil insulate
i remember i did this once in my early days of computing except it was with a power supply. i forgot it was on because the fan was quiet and i had my loud computer on in the room and well. it wasn't pretty. i was fiddiling around with a small transistor and i guess my finger went between it and one of the larger transformers and POW! it numbed my whole hand and i could see a white dot on my finger where it went in and a white dot where it went out. needless to say i always check and double check stuff like that before i go poking around. oh yeah and the powersupply was dead. [EDIT]i forgot to mention that i now have a small and hardly noticable twitch in that hand from this incident. electricity can really mess up your nervious system.[/EDIT]
