My scanners wern't perfectly good, they were old run down peices of crap. They were going in the trash so I thought I would scrap anything left in them. I agree, I should just buy a white set of CCFLs, but this was cheaper and more fun.

    several reasons:
    1. The scanner had no software or drivers, so couldnt be setup.
    2. i have a all in one in my home office that is 1000 times better than this piece of crap.
    3. Its fun to make stuff!

Oh by the way, I know the invertor is high voltage, but is it dangerous?

im sry i just realized i should post some pics of this mod in action. ill take some pics and have then up by tomorrow night. it looks quite good, i find the white glow inside the case really makes it easy to see things, i like it a lot more than the blue or red ones.

I imagine most broken scanners still have a working invertor and ccfl, you could pick up ten at a tip or car boot sale and have a super-bright case.

I dont know what your white CCFL look slike but if I stuck my scanners cathode in place of a factory built it would be like comparing the pay of the janitor and the system admin who are talking outside this room...

yeah that's the only part along with the stepper motor that i keep from old scanners. the good thing is that they are very bright.

another good source of ccfl's is old tft monitors

    it's all good

tryed it witha cannon multipass c555 and well to be honest couldnt find the inverter i think it was intigrted because the wire that goes to the CCFL is a ribben with about 12 different wires :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

if anyone more of these type of CHEAP mods are out there i need to find some good ones

Come on, think. The moving scanning head that contains the CCFL and the scanning sensor.

I know what they are, you took what I said out of context sorry.

I was wondering what you could actually do with the mechanism?
