That's the weird thing, I don't like them myself.

However my misconceptions of this album made it a surprising listen, and I have to say it's a very experimental and ambitious attempt to create a unique sound; one that certainly stands out against the many hundreds of emo punk bands.

Deftones album is terrific, their best since White Pony.

A few people are complaining that none of the songs really stand out (apart from the opening track), however I think it makes for a much more consistent record. Perhaps not as heavy as I would have liked, but it manages to sound fresh and innovative yet it retains that Deftones essence.

Not sure if it'll really qualify as its not from a single band/artist, but the radio 1 live lounge CD is a great listen.

The highlight for me has to be the Arctic Monkeys covering the Girls Aloud song Love Machine! :D

    Lamb of God - Sacrement

"this is a mother****ing invitation!!" sick as **** album

I think the new deftones album is a real disappointment, it just isnt deftones, deftones were that chillingly nightmarish mix of distorted vocals, dullingly miserable atmospheric noise and really obscure and disonent guitar chords, with would erupt into a full blown mess of pure emotion that was so beautifully macabre, only to end in complete sombreness once again.

The new album just seems like a really upbeat, clean, and.. dare i say trendy version of deftones that isnt welcome, its as though they hang around with coldplay all year. theres NO dissonence or feeling of painful misery in their music anymore..

also.. whats with the track title that makes reference to an old final doom cheat on the playstation??

oh, and the best album of the year goes to Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance, runner up Sikth - Death of a Dead Day. Both VERY solid albums.

Whilst I agree 'painful misery' has been the main ingredient of their music, the lack of it within this record is strangely why I like it...

The sound is cleaner, what I would describe to be almost ethereal in it's pureness.

The opening track 'Hole in the Earth' really sets the tone for the rest of the album; when I listen to the album it appears as if Deftones are in the after-life, their pain resolved and their misery subsided, their wounds healed and their angst calmed. There is a tangible sense of relief, reflection, acceptance and forgiveness in both the delivery of the lyric and the wonderful soundscape..

Yes it's different, but it's most definately Deftones.

    EDIT

Oh and Sacrement is fcuking awesome!

Right, i've just recieved my album of the month, and quite possibly, of the year.

    Threat Signal / Under Reprisal

Simply put, this album is just truely a gem.
If your a fan of fast metal, similar to Killswitch engage/Soilwork. Then you need to buy this.
I haven't listened to anything quite so enjoyable. Brilliant. :D

btw, ebay/amazon are the best place to pick this up. ;)
and check out their songs via myspace

    Awesome find! :thumb:

I've heard the name before, because I thought it was a great name...

Not heard the entire album yet, but the songs on myspace are ****ing awesome, some heavy sh!t

'One Last Breath' is just :jawdrop:

I thought the new Killswitch Engage album 'As Daylight Dies' was outstanding, but this is a contender for album of the year!
