Is it really necessary to have a CD audio cable connected to the CD/DVD drive to, say, rip a CD onto my computer? I only ask because I haven't got a spare one for my new build. Andy
no it's only used to play back analouge audio directly through your sound card. it isn't used for ripping, there used to be a check box in media player you had to tick for digital play back but I'm not sure that's even a option these days as it's become pretty much the standard.
Only important if you use Windows 9x or older. Now (Win2k and up) sends the audio data via the IDE or SATA cable
thats amusing, as I was wondering were that had gone on my new rig... Saying that when was the last time you played an audio cd without ripping it? and rember when cd drives had headphone sockets in?
My new rig has a floppy. I needed it for the SATA drivers (not got access to a working CD writer so I couldn't slipstream the drivers on to the disk) for XP. Andy
Ah, good old times, floppies, those audio leads, hard drives drowning out the noise from your fans, being able to have sword fights with sound cards becase they were that long...etc where has the fun gone!
Haha, good point! and there about the same price as those old sound cards were when they came out! problem solved!
