When ever i have my cd drive in (pioneer slot dvd) plugged in win xp pro takes 50 slides of the bar to boot. When it is not plugged in then it only take 4 slides. Could there be a conflict some where or is something else wrong?

    Thanks.

have you checked the Boot sequence in the BIOS? It could be that it is set to boot first from CD and is for some reason insistent on checking for the prescence of a CD! If so, try changing it to boot from floppy or hard drive first.

Is it on the same interface as the hard drive? Also, have you tried reinstalling IDE drivers?
