anybody know where i can get a tutorial on stealthing my 2 cd rom drives? i have an antec sapphire case if it matters.
thanks, now all i gotta do is come up with the bay covers that i thought i had i have 1 at least, i know that for sure. but i have no idea where. so, off to the for sale forums
call up antec customer service... they'll send you full sets (i think for like $5, and shipping) for any case they make they're number is: (510) 770-1200... ext361 is the guy who I talked to when I stealthed my burner
Since you are going to break off the tabs anyway, they don't necessarily have to be designed specifically for the Antec case. As long as the panel fits the front bezel properly (no big gaps). Most 5.25 bay covers will fit. Check out one of your local Ma & Pop computer stores and talk to the tech there. Tell him what you're up to and he might just let you have some for free (don't pay any more than a dollar for one). They usually have a boxfull of them in the back. Get four of them in case you mess up the mod. Try to get all matching ones. The ones that have a complete "sidewall" on them are the best. In other words, there are no small gaps where the tabs come into the panel. Makes for a neater look. If you are going to paint them, be sure to sand them down a bit (to get rid of any "orange peel" texture) and use vinyl paint.
i see where you're coming from bistro, but if i want to make it look right, I'd have to get the antec gemstone ones. the ones that match my case are translucent white. Wouldn't look too good if i put some beige or white ones on...I'm picky
Also, i emailed customer service and they told me that i had to buy a new front bezel for $10 and it would come with some bay covers...I think they're trying t rip me off. But, I'm going to call them sometime and see if I can buy like 4 or 5 bay covers only.
If you are to use transluscent covers along with that stealth mod article, you are going to have to "modify the mod" so that the adhesive (either foam tape or velcro) doesn't show through or at least looks half-decent. Just a friendly warning shot...
that's actually a good point and i was thinking about that...but no worries, i'll come up with something
Good point. Learned that lesson awhile back. If there's any doubt whatsoever that the mod/adjustment may not be permanent, go for hot glue. Superglue is just so.....so..... *&$# permanent. (Superglue can melt some plastics also--be careful)
