Wow, this week just keeps getting better=) Ok, I am running windows XP and my cdrom drives have decided not to work=) they are: LG CD-ROM CRD-8482B SONY CD-RW CRX140E I should mention they don't show up in my computer and are not accessable in any way that i could think of through windows, but they DO work in dos... When i look at them in device manager, it says the following: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I have tried everything I can think of and im completely at loss, the only solution I could think of at the moment was to reformat, but my friend has the cd, and i refuse to go back to ME=) Anyone ever seen this problem or know what the heck to do? Thx, IvAn
sounds to me like the drivers for the CD devices are broken and therefore your drive doesnt want to work with Windows... See of you can get hold of that windows CD or find some drivers somewhere
That Sony CD Extreme doesn't work, because it simply is an upgrade to a program called sony cd extreme, which I do not have.... I have a xp cd sitting around but i cant use it because the cdrom drives are messed in windows
Re-install your bus mastering drivers from the chipset manufacturers website, that should do it. If that doesn't work just do a re-install on top of your existing xp by booting from the cd-rom. This should work as your not touching windows.
The cd won't boot in dos, windows 98 and ME cds both work in dos, but the xp one(s) (as in xp and xp pro, neither work) bus mastering drivers eh? ill have to look into this...
Therein lies the problem=) the xp pro cd i used is at my friends house and i dont have a cdkey for normal xp so i think ill get a "trial version" off kazaa=) 128kb/sec, 54 minutes left, lol
And things get better... The cdrom drives do NOT show up in safe mode, the windows_xp_corporate_final.exe has decided not to load for some strange reason, and *tries to think of something else thats went wrong today*-- ill get back to you on that one..
sounds like a copy of a copy? j/k anyway, try totally removing the drives in device manager and rebooting, letting windows pick up the devices again.. you really shouldnt need specific drivers for an IDE/ATAPI cdrom.. fubared drivers arn't a call for a reinstall.. whoa, that rhymed.. -scoob8000
Hehe, tried it... lol... ill try to find a copy of a copy of a copy or something maybe that will work? Heh, wish me luck
BUT WAIT! IT GETS BETTER! *damn infomercials* I reinstalled windows XP pro and the cd rom drives STILL DONT WORK!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH pardon me while i burst into flames..
oh well you better go back to running dos 6.22 but seriously did you do an install over your existing xp or a fdisk and fresh install ?
do a fresh install of win2k or 98se that is most likely gonna give u sucess with you cdroms...worth a try anyway.... if that dont work its most likely a hardware problem...so u could try out using a different cable and a different ide slot....
well the thing is, I don't want to lose all the movies ive dled=P Im thinking about putting the HD from my other XP computer into this one and seeing what happens... Worst case ill reformat, but im gonna wait till either I get 2k(anyone? heh) or i get my xp pro cd back.... Lazydemon: The cd roms work in dos, so its something with windows. Herbs:Where can i find dos 6.22?! im stuck with dos 1.3!! hehe jk
