Ok i guess there are 2 simple ways of fixing my problem.. I have just built a pc with Windows Media Centre on it and i have connected it to my domain after some fiddeling, however i would idealy like the "My Videos" link on the front page to point to a network share so i can still have the GUI however there arn't all that many options for customising MCE so i cant simply point it somewhere else. So is there a way to change where the actual My Videos folder points? I have a 2k3 server so i am able to do this through group policy if that is any help?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Ben

You could just right click the file and go to properites and change the target!

I wish it was that easy, you can only do that with the My Documents root folder, the folder that My Videos is in. Makin it a little more hard. I think i have found it in the registry. Well i have found it a few times. All of them pointing to c:\docs + settings\..... so i will redirect all of those for all users to the videos mapped drive. Ill let you know how it goes.

Cut and paste the folder and the shortcuts update. I moved My Docs onto s different partition like this.

Thanks, that looks like a decent way to try n do it, however it moves my current my videos path but doesnt allow me to change it, so i will need to move all my videos into the new directory. Which is a big deal because i have lots. So i think ill try the rgistry first, but i dunno, im doin physics coursework at the mo. so ill do it in a bit,

Yeah it does take a long time. I had to move 15gb on a half crippled PC to avoid losing it all. Unfortunately in my case there was no other way.

try almost 100gigs of pure MPEG film! I dont really want 2 copies of it either, so i will exhaust all possibile ways before moving it. It will just take too long!

Crikey- my move took about 2 hours. That would be more like 12! Have you tried Tweak Xp for what to do?

the chances are tweak xp will mention the exact same reg keys im gonna change anyway!! but yer, i have that as a backup plan. Yup, it will take a while, BUT mine is on super wide SCSI on my server and those drives are 10k rpm so it wont take too long.

Lookin on tweak xp now it has options for my docs, my pictures and my music. Not videos, thats the one i wanted. If anyone knows the correct reg key though then ill use that.
