Hey I am an avid fan of TG, and I would like to be able to view the newest episodes from BBC's iPlayer, but I am located in Denmark, and I can't view the player from Denmark. I was wondering if any of you fellow geeks have a proxy you would recommend to me? It will need to be UK based of course. And I would like it to be free or very low cost. Best regards Picarro
Seeing as accessing iPlayer is of questionable legality without paying the BBC view TV license fee, why not just grab a torrent of it like any other pirate ?
As the BBC state, you don't need a TV licence to view On demand programmes via iPlayer, only for live tv. On top of that most countries in the EU get BBC channels anyway, or at the very least BBC World and some other thing which is basically BBC1. Not overly sure if this applies to Denmark, but I know that was the case in the Netherlands amongst other countries. Another thing you could look into is getting a free VPN or some such in the UK, I have one which resolves in California and speed is amazing (esp for free) which I use when I'm on open wifi when out and about.
So they can sell them on dvd to the rest of the world via BBC Wold Wide. Also in some cases the BBC only own the right to broadcast certain programmes in the UK.
I can recomend witopia. I use their OpenSSL VPN service on windows and Linux and it works a treat. You can alter the config file to set the VPN to only terminate in either the UK or USA. Cost $69.99 for a year (I got the SSL and PPTP combo) which worked out to £40 something quid. I get very little to no stutter and the odd pause when on Hulu but it works pretty well. I would be interested in finding a free service to see how well it would compare.
Thanks for all the input. And yes, here in Denmark we have BBC World and some other BBC channel.. Not the most used channels in my channel package lol :s
