Hi, as the title explains, i been searching the net for a couple hours for a guide to swapping the power LED in an N64 for one of a nicer colour ( blue ) anyway, i cant find a guide to do it, i cant imagine it being that hard but was looking for a guide incase i needa put any resistors in there or anything like that. So, if anyone knows a guide or can rite a quicky on the kit ill need and the easiest way to do it that would be great Cheers in adv, Prophet
there will be no guides... just use a multimeter (only cost £5 for a cheapo) to see what voltage the original led is. then buy a replacement in blue
bah, fair enough, was gonna do that 2moro or weds but was looking just incase.. o well.. if anyone else knows more feel free, if not, its down to maplin 2moro Proph.
You won't need any resistors, as it will already be voltage dropped. Blue LEDs require higher voltages than green etc, so it will be underun if anything. Just swap out the old one for a blue one. Simple.
N64 you mean Actually.. got no idea what colour LED a N64 has, cos I don;t do crappy consoles, but as he wants a blue led, I'm assuming it has a yellow, or green one, or something equally as boring. Yellow, red, orange, and green are all 2.4V, whereas blue, white, pink and UV are all 3.6v on average. It's always safe to swap out a green LED for a blue one for instance, cos the blue will be under powered.
We at maplin right now are selling a great little multimetre for 2.49 i think , or 3.49 , lol , I just work there i duno nethin :d
cool, tanks for info, off i go to maplin 2moro in the hope i can get my hands on some LEDs and that multimeter is a bargain, will grab one too, i dont have one at this dam uni hoose.. o well..
You need a gamebit to get a N64/Gamecube open as nintendo use custom screws with really strange heads on them. If you need one (£8) : http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=80&products_id=1440&
