At least you don't have to deal with the giant communist conspiracy that is Clearchannel Communication. Clearchannel own the leading radio station (most times top 2, or 3) in EVERY SINGLE MAJOR MARKET IN AMERICA. They therefore get to choose what the music is we listen to. Of course it's all pap teeny, soccermom crap. At least Radio 1 plays different styles of music. When I was working for a hospital up in Sherman, Texas I emailed Simon Mayo cos I was listening to his show at like 2 in the morning our time (working 3rd shift is fun, yea!) and he read out my email and dedication about 30 seconds later, that was cool
I totally agree with you! Clear Channel is an evil corporation. The local alternative station used to play alternative music. Everything from the Smiths to Beck to a little NIN. Then Clear Channel comes in. Now the "alternative" station plays the same green day song over and over. And we're now graced with Bubba the Love Sponge in the mornings.
youre not the only one. it depresses me too. thats why i listen to Rock and trance, stuff that will never be in the charts ever cause of 6 year olds and the mp3 downloading freeloaders (i.e. me, ermm)
I third that. My only escape is I am lucky enough to live within a college radio station. Every radio station here sounds the same. The "new rock, classic rock, and just suck rock" stations all compete for who can play Creed, Ozzy, and Metallica the most. Oh I forgot, there's also about 400 country stations too [insert bloo icon guy blowing brains out with handgun here...]
I hate chart music... It is all same-ish... All the "alternative" bands are wannabes these days, it makes me sick that this aural tripe is called music.... Hence why I like retro music,
you can see all of the bands I listen to on one of those band list threads around here... I love it when new NOW CDs come out so I can see what not to listen to! I'm a fan of Christian music, but even then, I prefer punk/ska/hardcore/techno/industrial... none of that popular crap... (I kind of feel like I'm the only one in this town that knows what good music is, then the bands come, and concerts here are not governed by any corporation! Wo0t!
I have to sit at work listening to radio1 every day .... I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sick of chart music. They must have a playlist that is only 4 hours long coz I hear the same songs over and over .... its horrible!!!!
Consider yourself lucky mate. I have to put up with the local station. The playlist is barely an hour long yet they play it ALL DAY LONG. Seriously, I would KILL for some Radio 1. Four hours to me now screams VARIETY!!! Blech.
alternative bands turn to commercial bands once they find that they can make money. they all sell out. I would love to be able to tune my radio into shoutcast streams. i know sorta impossible unless it hooked upto a mobile (well with these new pocket pc mobiles and windows mira/freestyle whatever then who knows. what i would really love to do is broadcast my own station at night. just too bits of my city (cardiff). No music unless its my own made music, but me just chatting about crap, and i'd prefer non pirate station though am tempted. Radio is a great form of communication, it shouldn't be goverend so as it is. it should be easier for ppl with my kinda intentions to set up small radio stations. Yes i do get the fact that if Osama bin laden were to take a holiday to france then come over to the UK and well since french customs seems to be no more than some guy in a uniform ona *** break then he could get in easily set up a station and start broadcasting to his followers to attack loughbrough museum. oh well i live in a dream world

chart music does sux0r... About clearchannel. I do find it disgusting that they've bought all of the top stations. Im glad that they've let the edge do its thing for the most part (minus trying to introduce eminem, ***hats.) As for saying all the alternative bands are sellouts. Don't you think the punk bands were called sellouts when everyone was listening to rock? But that's been discussed already. Beating a dead horse is out of my vocabulary now (that I'm back in school).

wtf is up with radio 1 ... they just started a 1 extra dedicated to black music ... ffs we don't need any more **** like that on the radio ... where is the rock radio stations!
i think they have a rock radio station planned for digital radio, this made me alugh on that unzipped with boy george on play uk smantha mumba even said the idea of a black music station is stupid, music is music if you like listening to something should it matter what the skin colour of the artist is ah well when i get my car, i will just drive round belting reel big fish, drowning pool etc out & drown out those idiots that think there haed as they have jay z or ja rule belting out there systems
