Just paid for my dell u2711, it should be delivered with in 14 days.

The only GPU i have is a nvs440 atm.

I expect to order a pny gtx580 at the end of the month but will require a cheap GPU to drive this screen for around 2 weeks in a hp dc7800p, a pcie card or pci.

any suggestions, just some thing to be able to play videos, web browse no 3d required.

The GTX 580 or 570 should provide you with sufficient power to run your games at max max max settings at your U2711 resolution, and the games of tomorrow. So, excellent choice here.

Any low end Geforce series graphic card will be able to handel your display. Basically anything that is faster than a Geforce 6800 GT, should provide you with a smooth Aero experience at that resolution. Just check the max resolution that it support your U2711 resolution over digital. Alternatively, you can use VGA with your current card (it should support it, but I have not checked)... the image will be a bit grainy/interference, not super sharp, not very color accurate, as your pushing VGA signal, but it should do for 2 weeks.
