Hi all. After four years of faithful service my HPA2 has decided to call it a day on the left channel. Pretty gutted but they've had a hard life.

Now obviously I'm not looking for the caliber of the HPA2. I got them for £45 as Dell XPS branded so never went near the original asking price of £180 or so.

My wants? well, as cheap as dirt would be nice with a deep thumping bass. I'm not interested in quality I have other headphones I use for that. I want something that games, and, can do rap and reggae.

    I've been considering this -

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ear-Force-X...id=1387198643&sr=8-25&keywords=gaming+headset

But have been out of the market for so long I've no idea on what the latest good cheapish ones are. I have a £15 Plantronics set that I had as a standby (thank god) but they sound completely crap.

I do have a set of Nokia Purity. Was considering getting some break out cables and a clip on mic? what do you guys think?

Money couldn't be tighter right now considering it's 9 days from Christmas, but my mate out in the USA always spends the holiday period gaming with me so I don't want to buck our little tradition.

    Cheers all :)

    Which plantronics do you have.

I have a set of (can't remember which off hand) and my daughter has a newer set and they sound great.

Yeh not as good as the expensive ones but for a budget headset they are hard to beat.

Gamecom. Not sure which there's no model on them.

They're really nice and comfy, lovely velour pads and headband sadly ruined by the fact they sound like a pair of tweeters :(

But then they were only £15 inc and they're saving my gaming bacon right now.

Is it not worth just getting an el cheapo microphone for now to keep you going, so you can carry on using your decent (non-mic) headphones?

Yeah I was thinking that. The Puritys sound a bit crap out of the box, but get an EQ on them and they're really lovely and punchy. Will need extension cables though as they're woefully too short, which is compounded by the fact I have no front audio socket (it's more a top one so I didn't even bother wiring it up).

A couple of half decent extensions and a mic which is a boom-mount or clip-on should come in way under budget :)

True. Mind you, one of those Siberias with a mic would also come in on budget. I worry about the Monsters being flimsy. They're also on ear which bothers me after 40 mins or so.

Couldn't you just use your decent headphones and the mic from your previous headset if it's just one of the channels which has gone? Either hang it around your neck or positioning it on the desk should work.

That's the ones my daughter has, she only uses them for Voip but they sound fine for that.

So, if I don't care about using a mic, that Steelseries set will work just fine?

I'm tempted - I just broke my headset and was looking for a cheap set to get by with, until I can cough up for some Qpad QH-90s.
