My IT7 MAX2 V2 mobo has two sata headers with raid ability.

IV got a hdd on one and another back up hdd on the other port. There not in raid mode.

I bought another hdd as a backup but i have no mobo ports left now so i bought a cheap pci two port raid card. Some no name thing.

I made my pc refuse to even post in 2 of the 3 avaliable pci slots

In the 3rd slot it worked fine must of been irq conflict.

problem is this card overrides the boot device of the mobo :duh:

It has to have the boot hdd on it. But i swoped my OS boot hdd to it i just got a BSOD upon windows loading screen.

It has not been thrown out the window :hip:

MY question is what do i go fro now?

Iv seen a few cards over at scan that look nice, Promise TX2 sata iirc looked nice

Ideally id like a 4 port so i can put them all on.

But not in raid, will this work do you think ? or will the cards have a fit and my windows installation upon loading?

Windows does not like the disk controller being changed on it. Before you swap your drive, set the controller in windows to the generic controller compatable with the drive type.
If it is set up as raid, you may be out of luck though.

Find a controller with JBOD function. That will be what you're looking for.

    And do as above^^

Or wait for Tad to come along and give his expert advise on everything RAID
