Can anyone recommend a good place to get good value for money web hosting and if a domain is thrown in, all the better. If I have to get them from two seperate places that is fine as well. I was using 000webhost but my new site doesn't like it too much and my domain just ran out so I thought I might as well get both together if I can. It is just for a single site and it is relatively small, but needs to be pretty fast as it has multiple images (it is essentially a portfolio) and a fair bit of jquery. There seems to be so many options/companies out there it is hard to see the wood through the trees! Thanking ye kindly.
Having used many different hosts before, avoid anyone that offers 'unlimited' anything. They will skimp on costs to offer such a service but you won't find this out until you've paid. I can thoroughly recommend asmallorange.com, their support is second to none and only $50 for the year ($35 if you need less space) A US based host will be better value due to the exchange rate and most offer 24/7 support so you'll be fine there, speed wise you'll hardly notice the difference for a normal website.
http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/pricing/details/web-sites/ See the free tier if that meets your requirements?
In case anyone cares or are looking to find a host in the near future... So I checked out Windows Azure. You can't actually proceed with anything without entering CC details. Although it's only Microsoft, I still didn't really plugging in my details to access something free... I had a look at absolutely heaps of hosting companies yesterday, comparing price and speeds. There certainly is a lot of competition in that market and it is so hard to tell who is actually going to be decent or not. Went with TSOHOST in the end, was more expensive than some but seemed to strike a good balance. £18 for hosting and a domain name for a year isn't too bad. Their control panel is rather nice and the speeds are like night and day against the free hosting I was using so I'm pretty happy actually. All done and uploaded within a few minutes of purchasing it.
Cheap Web Hosting & Domain Packages As it's 2016 now and I didn't want to start an additional thread, has anyone else had any experience here? I'm looking to register two domain names to hold for the time being until I'm ready to start... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use godaddy for domain names, they are all pretty much the same there, if you need webhosting i have found buying an ovh vps the best value for me, but it depends what you are after
I use hover.com (part of tucows) as their website is easy to use and just does what you want it to without constantly trying to up-sell you other services like other registrars *cough* godaddy *cough*
Cheap Web Hosting & Domain Packages Thanks guys... Have registered a couple of domain names for the time being. Ended up using thohost, funnily enough Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well... Since signing up with thohost, I've been bombarded by emails and telephone calls for web services. Blimey, did not expect the amount of ******** to come with registering two domain names for future use... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
From a web hosting point of view, I've never had any issues with TSOHost*... never had them try and upsell either... Their email/webmail though is terribad... So if you're after email, look elsewhere...
It's not thohost that are trying to sell to me... It's loads of other web developers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've used lcn for years. They probably aren't the best (but I am very happy with them) , they aren't the cheapest, but they are reliable, have good support and on the odd occasion that there is an issue, they hold their hands up and work to resolve it. I would thoroughly recommend them. They don't use cpanel which is a shame, but their control panel is simple and offers enough for me at least. Also I have never had any contact from anyone, other than the usual sporadic spam from other countries.
Holy thread revival! I'm with TSOHost now actually and they have been excellent - nice and fast. easy to use, and when I did have an issue they replied within 20 minutes on a late weekend afternoon. Never had anyone contact me or try and upsell from their selves or third-parties.
