    Hi all,

I currently run two monitors at work, both 1920 x 1080 Samsung panels with one in landscape and one in portrait. I am really starting to find 16:9 a pain so I would like to upgrade to 16:10, preferably at the highest resolution possible.

My work is not colour critical and I am looking to upgrade without spending too much money.

What are my options? I will likely keep one 1920 x 1080 monitor for the time being.

    Thanks

    long

Ha! I think your best (cheapest) bet would be one of those Korean panels on Ebay.

Absolutely nothing that works anywhere near that price.

There is no 'cheap' way to get that kind of resolution on a single screen, even if you do buy Korean monitors. (that I know of at least)

Just a thought but if you're upgrading from a smallish monitor (23" perhaps - you didn't say) to a 2560 27"+ monitor would you really notice the extra 160 pixels across the bottom of the screen? I should have thought that 1440p monitors were a good amount cheaper than 1600p ones...

It's true but I don't think that they are cheap enough for me to go for 16:9.

Fair enough. What, may I ask, is your ideal budget?

Was it Catleap? Seem to remember some people bigging up their Korean monitors recently and this name springs (pardon the pun) to mind...

For something like 2560 x 1440, cheaper is one of those korean ebay ones. There's nothing wrong with them. They're B class panels that were rejected for almost no reason. Normally they're rejected Apple panels. Qnix, Achieva or Yamakasi are the best ones on ebay. They sell for about £200-£250, a little more if you get a pixel perfect one.

They normally feature a great display with very basic, generic cases.

It was Catleap but they only do 16:9, looks like Dell might be my only real option.

There are Korean companies which do 16:10 monitors.

Just ebay 2560x1600 and you should get a variety.
Otherwise you could look at Hazro, I know they certainly used to do a 30" model.

Yeah, dude, this is the cheapest option by far. There is a Crossover 30" here for £355.

Again, no idea on your budget, but DGM is bringing out a new 30" monitor on the same LG IPS panel as the 3011 et al. It'll be LED backlit unfortunately, but it'll still be pretty nice. I would expect it to be in the region of £500, given their equivalent 27" (1440p) was between £300 and £400 depending on sales.

    Digimate

Could be worth waiting as it might mean a UK-based seller, which would make warranty a bit easier.

Edit: Prior reply wasn't there when I posted! Honest!

Edit 2: Just done some digging. £900. Rats. Korean monitors are your best bet.
