Thats a great Idea and If I have the time (no doubt I have the tools) I will do some for you. Wood cases will not get as hot as some people think. Location of the fans is necessary and make sure your air flow is correct then there will be no problems. Plexiglas cases have a harder time. They too are flamable but air flow air flow air flow. The big problem there is it can be more air tight then any other case. Thats where your problem could come up, :dremel:

I finally got my stock down to 3/4". I've been working on the basement that I don't have a bunch of time to devote to this project right now.

Also picked up some more of the hardware I need for this project.

The TDX is for the CPU. I had the other water block for another project but I may have a use for it here. The switches, barrel hinges, fillport, magnetic latch, and leds are for this project.

Greensabbath I thought you would appreciate this little baby I picked up this past weekend. Knowing how you do you projects you have to sharpen your tools on a 30 - 45 min basis I would think. (maybe even shorter) I was in Japan and watched some of the masters at work and they only used a tool for 5 min before they handed it back to the man in charge of sharpening them.

That thing looks pretty sweet. I've always tried to sharpen my chisels without a guide (unsuccessfully) but I think its time to get a honing guide to practice on.

I'm eagerly waiting for this mod to really get going. Mod on.

For sharpening chisels i would recommend the use of an oil stone (natural one if you can get it, as these are a finer grit). Then place the chisel at 45 degrees and move smoothly back and forth along the oil stone. hold the chisel up to the light to see if there is any odd/uneven reflection, if there is then the chisel is not flat. Repeat until sharp/flat.

Nice planer btw :) looking forward to what you make :)

Thanks I just purchased a stand and additional trays for longer support of the lumber. New sharpening techniques use film that is placed on glass or like mine honing plate. The film has the finest grit available. As for the degrees the chisels (mine are Irwin) require a 30 degree hone. They are factory ground at 25 degrees and then Honed to 30 degrees. There is a secondary bevel at 32 degrees that gives it the best edge. The tool holds the chisel at the proper angle to prevent from loosing the straight edge. After that a strop is used for mirror finish. Thats the way you sharpen the chisel to razor edge. Stones can be used in this device but they have to be flattened after use or they will begin to develope a groove. :dremel:

Ahh, yeah, I know what you mean (not really since i'm only 20 but I can imagine). That's ok though, things will be better in the long run.

As for the chisels, I use a dmt diamond whetstone for the first 2 grits, and then a synthetic polishing stone for the last grit. I have Japanese chisels so the whetstones go along with the theme :D

That is a nice planer too. Did you get your lathe set up yet?

No sadly I didn't. The store didn't have the model in stock so I was left with either a mini or midi lathe and I want the pro series. Yes Diamond wetstone is fantastic for getting a good edge. I like em too but they can be very expensive sometimes. But with the japanese chisels you have to get the best edge to do what youre doing.

You are correct. It would hold the blade at the precise angle and give you one great edge. I just dont have the horizontal space (table top space) to give to that unit.

There are smaller ones too that only have the top chisel sharpener thing. If I wasn't a traditional type of guy (in furniture at least) I'd definitely like one of those.

Its been a while and my wife's closet is finished so I got to work on my project. I finally got all the boards jointed and ready for the router.
I used my router to then cut a locking glue joint for strength.
Then it was time for glue up.
These boards will have to cure overnight before I can proceed to the next step. The excess glue can be scraped off very easy after its cured. The I can put the a sand on the boards to prep them for build.Stay tuned.
