Right, I'm on a bit of a chick rock kick at the moment and was hoping some of you might have a few sugestions for me..

    So far I've got:

    Guano Apes
    Miss Machine
    Hole/Courtney Love
    Krezip
    Veruca Salt
    Anouk
    Garbage
    No Doubt (*NOT* Gwen Stuff-a-hamster-up-my-arse-ani)
    Evenessance/Amy Lee
    Within Temptation
    Souxie and the Banshees
    Rachel Loy

What I'm really looking for are bands with singers more along the Miss Machine, Krezip, Garbage, Varuca Salt kinda thing rather than Evenessance and Courtney Love kinda thing..

    Cheers!

If you want something a bit strange go and listen to some tracks by The Knife. Not purely female vocals and not rock but it's really good.

    Skunk Anansie! :D

Guano Apes and Garbage are my faves out of this list, the first album from Guano was a complete classic.

Don't forget there's Auf Der Maur (sp?) you could add to that list, and if you're really determined, Lacuna Coil.

If you want to check out some harder rock or punk stuff then I'd recommend L7, Bikini Kill, or The Killer Barbies.

There's also some interesting Japanese rock and pop groups that even have some songs in English.
Shiina Ringo is one of my favs.
    Cibo Mato is pretty good.
    Bonnie Pink
hmm...the list goes on but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

EDIT: No, I'm thinking of Lamb. Knife/Lamb, same association in my mind.

Strange, I was thinking about Skunk Anansie this morning as well, wondering what became of and when I last had listened.

Two for the J-rock: High and Mighty Colour. If you can put up with the **** additional vocals of one of the guys she has an awesome voice. Also, Anna Tsu...something. I'll get back to you.

    EDIT: ANNA TSUCHIYA. Su-chi-ya.

Dunno if it'll fit in with what you want, but Sahara Hotnights are good IMHO.

Oh - (sorry for the double post,) how could I have forgotten?

Check out Mary's Danish. Female vocals. They're a little old now, but fantastic and they come with a great cautionary tale for new musicians.

    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=60184593

Just fantastic, but the world missed out on their music because of mishandling by the record label.

Here's an article about the demise of Mary's Danish:

And the official website of the band where you can download all of their music for free.

Check out the cover of foxy lady

Yeah, I only thought of Killer Barbies because the singer is hot!
I had a few of their music vids and a friend of mine has some short movie that they did.
The movie was terrible of course, but the music is alright.

    J-Rock is the best imo.
thanks for making this thread actually. It'll give me more bands to look up.

Edit: Ooohhh...how could I forget Love Psychedelico.
gotta love any band whose debut album is called "the greatest hits"
Look up the music video for their song "Lady Madonna yuutsu naru SPIDER"

The Long Blondes (if you dont dig the majority of their stuff then you'll at least love 'once and never again')
Letters To Cleo (slightly obv. one)
    Deadline (british!!!)
Tilt (mixture of male/female lead - make sure u get tilt the punky band tho there seems to be an abundance of 'tilt's)
    Dance Hall Crashers
The Birthday Massacre (If if remember you as well as I think then you should dig these)

Cardigans are quite good, though there is quite a bit of trashy lovey stuff in there too ;)

Take that back about Gwen Stefani, she rocks :)

Damn, just the title of this thread has me wanting to go watch empire records!

    ARGHHHHH NOT BETH DITO *runs*

can't stand her... moreso the whole "professional lesbian" thing.. gah.

I think Cranberys are a chick band or at least chick fronted... I'll look into it..

and no Bogo, Gwen Stefani can just go ahead and eat a sandwich.. or maybe Beth Dito can eat her...

This post brought to you by the irritable rambling of Lorquis...
