Der8auer did a really an interesting video showing how chimney effect can really enhance passive water cooling. I'll add that to my future projects list!
I haven't watched the video as I'm at work (workin', 'onest) but I've seen a few examples of chimney and waterfall cooling back in the days when we all DIY modded our PC's. Something similar has been my planned 'try out' list for years! Mibbeh soon...
Yeh watched this yesterday, thought would be a neat mod to make the chimney mount on the wall with components mounted to the outside of it. You could probably mount a few rads interspersed in the chimney, run them in opposing temperature gradient to the air to make it as efficient as possible, but not sure how much that interruption in airflow would cost, probably. Alternatively you get as big a rad as you can in, like an alphacool 400mm x200m monsta
Exactly my thinking, I have 3 x 360's, you could stack them for max heat sourcing or side by side for max volume! I was also thinking it could be fun to use some of those classic passive rads in the chimney as an alternative.
Oh like the zalman reserator or those other smaller ones you link together. Man they'd be hard to come by nowadays Edit: yeh, one listing for the alphacool cape cora ones on eBay, in the US, and one zalman.
This thought is largely unrelated to der8auer's video... But given how turbomegafucked the hardware side of things is rn... i wonder if we'll see more people lean [back] into experimenting with watercooling or whatnot...
Not if it kills their very expensive hardware! Although the twin blocks on my 3090 have its DRAM so cool I'm hoping for a good long life for it!
Some people might be willing to risk it if they think they can extend the lifespan of, say, a 90-tier card. 'and whatnot' was more case modding and the like... if people can't wave their e-wang with hardware they'll try and wave it in other ways...
I saw this the other day and, while it is interesting, the implementation doesn't quite vibe with my SFF ethos.
