The answer to troubles at home is to create trouble abroad, give the proles something else to think about. So what's America's role in a peaceful world?

I believe America (amongst other nations) tries to force peace onto the nations of the world, often through means which don't usually coincide with peaceful intentions. Hypocrisy.

I'm all for everyone minding their own business... and letting everything sort itself out. It's not how the world works, but I can hope.

Wonder how long it'll be till Nexxo has a quick post and really gives us something to think about...

America is just too s**t scared of what will happen when China is on equal economic grounds. It's like what would happen if Wal-Mart were a country. Their economic power would far exceed that of the US and all the US would be able to use as leverage is to pull the plug on trade and put up sanctions. The trouble is that China is a lot bigger than Cuba.

Well, not to mention they could single handedly screw our economy by dumping all the debt they have bought in the last 5 years. China owns us, and we know it.

Hmm... this one really made me think?

Is it because China poses a risk to world peace or that China may eventually be an equal in terms of economic power?

I think eventually being an equal might be a bit of an understatement. China will become more economically powerful than america sometime in the next decade or thereabouts I think. America just can't compete with a population 4 times its own. The UN should be stepping in now to stop arms trading/wmd proliferation - thats what it was designed to do. America just need to respect the UN a bit more and give it their full support. Maybe then the world wouldn't be going so quickly to hell in a handbasket.

USA cant get anywhere with Korea so blaming china because China doesnt want to get involved?

Is that how Bush Bullied Blair into making UK troops go to Iraq. If they dont go we will blame you for not helping in world piece.

USA are trying to create trouble. Shut up and sort your own country out as the polution caused there is more dangerous and caused more damage to the world than any fake nuk north Korea have.

Actually, China has been heavily negotiating with NK behind the scenes to halt their proliferation. This is driven by its own interests, of course --China doesn't want its neighbours to have nukes-- but at least it is getting a lot further with NK than the West has ever managed. So much for China not pulling its weight in world peace.

Of course, given its own recent track record, everything the US says now sounds hollow, and is generally met with suspicion and derision. The Bush administration really should know when it is better to shut up. But I guess it likes to fire off its mouth like it likes to fire off its guns.

"If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding bronze, or a tinkling cymbal.

And if I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing."
