The avrage person in china won't even know about such restrictions in place on them.. makes you think, that we could be restricted more than it appears and never know.

its ok, nobody in china will want to use the internet, after they block all the pr0n theres only 3 pages left, and two of those are bit-tech.net.

anyone remember BT's cleanfeed? same thing, different name (although, BT didnt announce to the world that they were censoring sites).

there have always been many ways around the big yellow firewall, and those ways will continue to exist. i dont think im particularly shocked at them blocking sites, they have been doing this for years, but i think im more shocked that they have just admitted to controlling the *news*. has anyone really thought about that? take every news story you saw on tv in the last week, remove all hint of murder, rape and dont we love in a wonderfull place compared to the rest of the world. demo's in tianamon square? why, i never saw *that* on the news, so it obviously didnt happen.

most people in china will know about the restrictions (just like everyone 'knows' about carnivor and raptor reading your emails), but that will be the extent of their knowledge, and being good citizens, they will never encounter the big yellow firewall in the sky (or the secret police that guard it). for those that do have extensive knowledge of it, there are allready existing ways around it (and very clever ones, i might add), that have been developed over the many years the restrictions have been in place. all the chinese government has done is extend their control to the largely unregulated internet-cafe's and news, as opposed to just the news.

censorship and media control exist everywhere in the world, the difference here is that china are open about it. live in the UK and think you are not being censored? try accessing al-jahira, or an al-quida supporter site.

oh, and if anyone else wants to say 'stick it to china, information wants to be free!' one more time, well, how about free'ing the information on your credit card, just scan both sides and post it here. lets see how much you beleive in your moral decisions.

they can wait for you to post something that they can consider anti-state, then send anonymous men to drag you out of your bed in the middle of the night, make you watch whilst they kill your family, then kill you. or, they can just throw you in prison for the rest of your (short) life. extreme examples i know, but its the chinese government, they can pwn your ass in ways you cant even imagine (if your a chinese citizen), this is the same government that sent tanks and troops in to fire on unarmed students holding a peacefull protest in tianamon square (way back in 1989), you might want to read about it before deciding the PRC cant do antyhing to stop you posting on blogspot.... with those very fragile looking fingers.

What strikes me odd about China is didn't the president recently tell Tony Blair that China wanted to move to be a democracy?
