How hot does the chipset on a motherboard get? I'm looking into getting the Chaintech VNF4/Ultra and was wondering if I would need to cool the chipset down...I'm going to be ordering water cooling parts. Should I bother with a chipset water block or no?

i would do tbh, standard northbridge heatsinks do tend to be quite warm/hot and a northbridge block would help a little with your overclocks :)

btw, i have a northbridge block in my w/c setup, deffo worthit

Buy it and check it doesnt get in the way of your graphics card or anything before upgrading the cooler on it. From the pic it looks like the MCP is adjacent to the PCIe x1 ports so you mebbe ok. The reference board ive got puts the MCP along the line of the PCIe x16 which means you cant upgrade it above ultra low profile.

I just got my A8N-SLI in and the chipset fan is really weak and noisy. It spins at about 9000RPM... Unfortunately it had to be small so it wouldn't interfere with (presumably) the cooling on 6800 Ultra's. I plan to watercool mine however I'd consider using the Swiftech MCX159 on it too (I have one just on a different system, and I'm positive it would be fine passively).

I don't know how hot it gets but the stock cooling is junk.
