I ran Chkdsk on my hard drive and it came up with the below, I know it says 'minor inconsistencies' but how minor are they? As the log alway's lists similar unused index entries etc anytime I run Chkds, I'm assuming they're nothing to worry about? Cleaning up minor inconsistencies on the drive. Cleaning up 86 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9. Cleaning up 86 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9. Cleaning up 86 unused security descriptors.
if they are always in the same place it might be worth running a disk-checking tool like HDTune (theres a free version) just in case.
No they're not alway's in the same place, often other places, just not sure why there would be unused index entries, I mean why would it say they're unused anyway? I've no idea lol.
I'll run HDTune and see what it says, i'm using Hard Disk Sentinel and that says the hard disk status is perfect and also says Power on time 555 days, 12 hours, Estimated remaining lifetime: more than 1000 days
This link might answer your questions. I've seen output like you described very often and there's never been some sort of disk failure involved. EDIT: Here's another link that might be even more relevant.
Thanks for that Azrael and barndoor101 I've ran HDTune and all is well, that 120gb hard drive is the one I ran Chkdsk on and the one that said cleaning up unused index entries etc. and I ran Hard Disk Sentinel as well and that says the status is perfect
